ABSTRACT The efforts by the managers of Micro-Finance Institutions to tackle the seemingly intractable challenges associated with Poverty in Nigeria have undoubtedly not been easy. Thus, this study was designed to bring into sharp focus the role research based solutions will play in tacking these challenges. The survey research method, which uses the questionnaire, was used in the study. The study sample size were 1200 respondents, one Local Government from each of the three senatorial districts in Edo State was selected. In each Local Government selected,400 respondents views were sought using the purposive sampling technique. The questionnaire administered on respondents covered different variables such ass, educational attainment status, sex, etc The study recorded the responses in a tabular form and counted. The figures derived were converted into percentages in value presentation. The study adopted the chi square (X2) correlation to test relationship that existed between the independent and dependent variables. From the data analyses, it was gathered that: (I) Using Micro financing to tackle poverty is a step in the right direction, and that the contemporary configuration of Micro-Financial Institutions in Nigeria at present is a the sure way of eradicating poverty.
(II) Micro-Financial Institutions in Nigeria have contributed in no small way to the reduction in the incidence of poverty and as such they should be encouraged.
