Task Descriptions & Criteria
Evaluation Criteria:
Your grade will be determined by how many marks you earn during the semester. Marks are based on the following assignments:
4. Design & Planning: Lesson Plan 20 %
5. Micro-teaching 20%
Lesson Planning - Chapter 22
You are required to micro- teach for 30 minutes in your TEFL class.
Micro-Teaching Practice Arrangements
Normally, Micro-teaching will be undertaken during your normal TEFL class.
N.B. It is your responsibility to make sure you are available to undertake micro-teaching practice and to ensure that sufficient time is available for you to reach the necessary standard.
Two elements of teaching will be assessed: your classroom work and your lesson planning.
A. Lesson Plan Format
a) Your lesson plan is to be prepared on the University of Nicosia TEFL Lesson Planning Format.
b) Your lesson plan should demonstrate your capacity to plan a range of different types.
B. Classroom work
Satisfactory teaching entails at least the following:
a) development of clear and appropriate aims for lessons within the context of a well-defined and worthwhile program;
b) implementation of those aims in actual classroom practice;
c) Establishment of a co-operative, constructive and purposeful second language learning environment in the classroom;
d) use of a variety of appropriate techniques, activities and materials to promote language learning and maximum participation by all students;
e) appropriate and knowledgeable use of resources and textbooks;
f) use of teacher language that is sensitive to learners’ levels and that promotes learner language development;
g) use of self-evaluation and student input about classroom work and, where appropriate, the direction of the program;
