Migraine Analysis

In my years as a nurse, and even my very little clinical experience as a DNP student, I have seen many patients suffer from migraines. Personally, I also suffer from severe migraines. There are many different treatments available for migraines right now. Medications from the triptan class of medication such as sumatriptan and rizatriptan are very common medications prescribed to help alleviate the symptoms of a migraine (Epocrates, 2017). In 2009, triptans accounted for just about 80% of antimigraine analgesics that were prescribed at office visits (Smitherman, Burch, Sheikh, & Loder, 2013). Unfortunately, it is becoming more common that medication is not helping alleviate symptoms of a migraine. Accuracy: The review of this meta-analysis revealed no apparent falsified claims. There were no apparent grammar or punctuation errors. It was hard to determine if further references supported or negated the claims presented since the reviewed articles were not listed. Purpose: The information for this article can be found through Google scholar search. Utilizing the key words of “Botox injections” and “migraine frequency” yields quite an abundant amount of results, taking time to locate the article. This study incorporated variables that were analyzed versus a placebo. There was nothing listed about the side effects from botulinum toxin type A injections, which was an omission. The language in this article could be difficult for an uneducated adult to understand. The language was appropriate for the topic however.
