When I was 16, I moved to Melbourne, Australia from U.A.E. But why did I? I moved for the larger range of facilities that Australia had even though Dubai had some good ones too. It all started when I was proceeding towards my higher studies, I was sure that I wasn’t going to do it in Dubai. So I researched carefully for the perfect place; not too cheap nor too expensive, but it had to be a good quality.
I then found Australia and it looked pretty good. I searched for good university and found the perfect one. “The University of Melbourne is an Australian public university located in Melbourne, Victoria. Founded in 1853, it is Australia's second oldest university and the oldest in Victoria.” I had relatives who had rented an apartment for a relative to stay in Melbourne which was vacant, and I could be the one residing there! With a lot of convincing my parents agreed and before I knew it, I was travelling on my own to the other side of the world which is known as down under!
When I went to Australia, I went on a tour and I was surprised to see the amount of fauna– Where else in the world can you catch kangaroos hopping along the side of the road and koalas nestled up gum trees? Whether it's summer or winter... whether you like to watch or play... there’s was always plenty of sport going on in the nation. The beaches looked wonderful, and I have to admit, Australia is the perfect place for chasing an endless summer.
When I started university I knew Australia was the place for me. The people around me were so friendly and would give you a helping hand whenever you need one. The Aussies are truly the people to spend time with, sit around and enjoy the day. But I felt home sick for a few months but fortunately, I soon got used to none of my parents being around, and only visiting them during the holidays gradually turned into a yearly routine. Even though my nationality is Sri Lankan, I still say that Australia is the only made to perfection
