Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla was born on May 8, 1753 in Corralejo, Mexico.
He is the son of Cristobal Hidalgo y Costilla and Anna Maria Gallaga. He was the second child of eleven and is survived by his three brothers Jose
Maria Hidalgo y Costilla, Jose Joaquin Hidalgo y Costilla, and Manuel
Hidalgo y Costilla.
Miguel Hildago y Costilla became a Roman Catholic priest at the age of 25.
He received a bachelor's degree in theology and philosophy from San
Nicholas College in Valladolid in 1778. He taught Latin grammar and Arts at Colegio de San Nicolas Obispo in Moreli. He became the dean of Colegio de San Nicolas Obispo in
