absolutely nothing all day. The rest of the afternoon consists of yard work, daydreaming about a better life, and going to the store to get dinner. After dinner Mike says goodnight to his donkey and climbs into bed with his nagging, worthless wife. It was one of those nights that Mike had an extraordinary dream. As he slept, he imagined him and his best friend donkey just leaving their lives and starting an incredible adventure. They had no problems or worries and enjoyed the best time of their lives. Along their way, Mike and Michael would attend a donkey show, where Michael would go through a series of challenges and tests. The winners of the show would receive money and that would be how they made their living. At the end of the dream, Mike and his companion opened up a beach bar in Mexico became wealthy and lived the rest of their lives happily forever. A distant bell sturred Mike from his deep slumber. It was his alarm clock telling Mike that another routine was to begin. Mike crawled miserably out of bed and reset his alarm clock. He got dressed then drug himself into the kitchen for a promising breakfast. After pumping himself full of createne and popping his Viagra, Mike got the mail and brought Michael out some carrots, hay and grain. While munching down his breakfast Michael listened as Mike rambled about a better life, and the exciting adventure that he dreamt about. Michael knew that Mike's main problem in life was his wife, but for some reason, Mike decided to put up with his wife's constant nagging and complaining. A short time after Mike entered his house, screaming could be heard by Michael who cringed at the sound of Sharrol's high, piercing voice.
Sharrol was explaining to Mike that he was worthless and a pathetic husband. Mike didn't let his wife's anger get to him until she told Mike that she was going to sell his donkey, and use that money to go shopping. Mike lost it. He stormed into the room and began hurling clothes into an old grungy gym bag. "Where in cold hell do you think you are going?" Snapped Sharrol. "I can't put up with you anymore Sharrol, so I'm leaving you and taking my donkey with me!" "You can't leave me, Mike Hawk, I'll report you to the sheriff!" She screamed with only a red face for Mike to look at. Tell you what, you do that!" Replied Mike. "And while you're at it, tell him I think he is a fat, worthless pig!" This being said, Mike galloped down the stairs and hurried over to where Michael was grazing. "Come on my little jackass friend, we are going on a permanent vacation!" Michael sensed Mike's excitement and waited patiently as his friend straddled him up. Both of them took one last look at their past and were prepared to charge into the
future. At that moment Sharrol appeared on the front porch, waiting oh so unpatiently with a shotgun, screaming at the top of her lungs, "get back here Mike, come back here to me, or I will pump your guts so full with lead, that you will be more poisonous than a pencil from the 40's!" In Mike's determination, he ignored this demented request, flipped her the bird and in no time at all he was exiting his abandoned drive way. Not so much as a shot was fired. Mike was on his way to a new life, but he needed supplies. He decided to stock up at the town grocery store. As Mike left the store, he took time to read the bulletin board, and a bright yellow flyer with dark red writing caught his eye.

The day was Tuesday, and Beatingsonville was just over 100 miles away. If him and Michael hurried they could make the show on time. Mike stuffed the flyer into his pocket then ran to tell Michael the good news. Michael was ecstatic, or that's usually what it means when he half looks at you and switches his tail from side to side. For the next three days, the two good friends rode on, only stopping to sleep and eat. In no time, they arrived in Beatingsonville on the Friday night before the competition. At 7:00 AM on Saturday morning, Mike rode Michael to the fairgrounds to register him. After registration, Mike was given a stall to prepare Michael for the day's events. When they got to the stall, Michael was groomed from head to toe, which wasn't easy after the sweaty trip. Throughout the day, Mike put Michael through a series of tests and the judges scored him on his ability to look professional, show a great deal of obedience but most importantly, he was scored on the quality of his work in the fields. He packed insane amounts of weights from point A to point B, plowed an acre of land and surprisingly enough kept up with the best darn jackass there was. At the end of the show, Michael was honored Second place, and the cash prize of $2,000. That being just enough money for them to continue their journey. It was not smooth sailing from there, my friend. When they got back to their stall, a man with black cowboy boots, a cowboy hat from a low budget Western film, and a sheriff's badge was waiting for them at the door. His figure was far from being slim, in fact the mans stomach hung out from under his shirt, and stretch marks were visible against his pail white skin. He was easily 250 pounds, also he couldn't have been very smart because the man talked as if he only made it to the third grade. The Sheriff spat a milk jug amount of tobacco juice onto the ground and then asked in a raspy, cold voice "are you Mr. Mike Hawk?" "Sir only my friends call me Mike Hawk, you can call me Pedro Raul Manchesco Diego, now what can I do for you?" Mike replied in a calm voice. The Sheriff snapped, "Don't you dare be a smart ass with me! I ought a take you in right now for what you did to your wife!" "Well alrighty then," said Mike appearing to have lost his interest. There was a short silence only to be interrupted by Mike looking up from unsaddling Michael, then challenged "well go ahead then, arrest me, oh respectful officer." At this the sheriff reared back and threw a punch that dropped Mike to his knees. "I would but I don't have the authority to," snarled the sheriff. "But if you don't start showing some respect and calling me sheriff, I will do the honor of putting you in the hospital!" "What is this about sheriff," Mike coughed, and then hesitantly replied. "I have a message from your wife. She told me her story about you leaving her with nothing and I told her she could probably take this to court. To tell you the truth, your wife and I were hitting it off nicely. I expect us to be dating full time by the end of the week," replied the sheriff with a confident smirk. "I really don't care about you or my ex-wife. Why don't you just get the hell away from me and stop wasting me and Michael's time" "I'll be watching you. If you so much as run a red light, I'll have you making license plates faster than you can say all cops are pigs'!" The sheriff turned to leave and as he did, he heard Mike tell Michael "yeah you really have to watch for those donkeys running red lights. That pig needs to waddle his fat backside back to the doughnut shop or go write a parking ticket." The sheriff wheeled around and charged Mike with his fists clenched in sheer rage. He got within five feet from Mike when he was caught straight in the sternum and sent 15 feet in the other direction, while little Michael stood tall. He slowly got to his feet, tried to catch his breath, then staggered to the exit. "That's not the last time we will see him," Mike replied shortly. Knowing inside that he was safe as long as he had Michael's powerful kick. The two continued their journey every two weeks stopping at different fairs. They competed and always won, getting the jackpot. Mike would always save half of their earnings, for that beach bar in Mexico that he dreamed of so frequently. Two years passed, and they were still on the road. By this time, they had saved $100,000. It was near the city of Dallas, Texas, when Michael's leg broke due to accidental pothole stepping. Poor old Michael collapsed immediately and groaned in pain. Mike acted quickly, he made a splint out of wood and somehow he helped Mike off into a clearing on the side of the road. Mike made a fire and built a shelter for Michael to sleep in. Mike waited for Michael to fall asleep, then he walked 5 miles to the nearest home to ask for help. An elderly lady answered the door and listened to Mike tell her about Michael's injury. When he had finished she said, "I can help you. I am a retired veterinarian and I often deal with my own animals broken bones." "Thank you so much!" Mike replied happily. "What is your name? I am Mike Hawk." The lady replied, "My name is Lucy Lump. Take me to your donkey and we can bring him back here using my horse trailer. Just go get in the truck while I tell my daughter that I am leaving." "Alright, I will meet you there," agreed Mike. When Lucy came to the truck, she carried a large bag. They bolted down the road and were shortly at Michael's side. "It's a clean break," examined Lucy. "I can set it, but your donkey will have to rest under my care for at least 3 weeks. Where do you live?" Mike was stumped; he didn't know what to say. "Uh well, we are traveling together, we don't really have a permanent home." Lucy looked at him trying to decide on what to say. "Well, if you need a place to stay, I have an extra bed that you can sleep in." "I guess I don't have a choice do I?" Mike replied sounding more down about it than he meant to. "In return I will work for you for the time that I stay at your house," offered Mike. "That works for me, your jackass will be like new in no time," assured Lucy. They headed back to Lucy's farm and when they arrived, Lucy instructed Mike to wait in the house while she unloaded and tended to Michael. Mike was sitting in her living room when he turned his head and witnessed a woman with great beauty standing no more than 10 feet away from him. She said hello to him. Mike just sat and stared. "Umm hello?" She announced a little louder this time. "Oh hi," Mike said quietly almost to himself. "Mike this is my daughter, Shelly." Interrupted Lucy. "Hi," repeated Mike again. "I am Mike, Mike Hawk." "Nice to meet you Mike Hawk, what brings you to my mom's house?" Asked Shelly. "My donkey got hurt, and your mom is going to tend him for a while." Replied Mike, trying to come back to reality. "I am staying here for a couple of weeks." "Shelly is up for the month to help around the farm," replied Lucy. "Well it is nice meeting you Mike," said Shelly. "I will be going to bed everyone, so I will see you in the morning." Mike said goodnight and so did Lucy. Lucy told Mike where his bed was and they both went to sleep. Every day Mike helped around the house and farm but the thing that he enjoyed most was talking to Shelly everyday. Michael was healing up nicely and Mike could tell that he was ready to get back on the road. Mike and Shelly were connecting nicely and Lucy could tell that sparks were flying. At the end of three weeks, Lucy cleared Michael to get back on the road. "Thank you so much for your kindness, Lucy." Mike replied gratefully. "It was nice having ya Mike. Stop by and see me again sometime!" Replied Lucy. "Mom, Mike has asked me to go with him to Mexico and I accepted his offer," said Shelly, seeming to expect denial from her mother. The two ladies went into the other room and had a long talk, all of which Mike patiently waited through. When they came out, Shelly had the biggest smile on her face and Mike knew from then on his life was going to be a lot more full of love. They traveled the country together, Michael did even better than before in competition and they were raking in the dough, making bank if you will. The three traveled everywhere, but Mike and Shelly's main focus besides the competitions was each other. It was as clear as day, they were falling in love. A year later, 150 miles North of the Mexican boarder, disaster struck the three companions. It was after Michael had won first place in a competition and Mike was preparing Michael to go. The two heard footsteps outside of their stall and around the corner came the one and only, sheriff. He said nothing and from behind the sheriff stepped Sharrol. They just stared at Mike and Michael, but then the sheriff pulled out a knife. He had this look in his eye and mike knew that the man meant business. The sheriff approached Mike slowly but got too close to Michael. Michael violently kicked the sheriff if the knee. Naturally, the sheriff cursed and fell to the ground but Michael stood over the top of him still, kicking and biting the sheriff. Mike stood with his back to the corner of the stall, not paying any attention just watching the man getting stomped to death. All of a sudden, there was a warlike scream from Sharrol. Michael's kicking stopped and the donkey fell to the ground. There was a twelve-inch blade sticking out of Michael's back and he struggled to breathe. Sharrol took off running and it was clear that the sheriff was dead. Blood ran out of Michael's wound and mouth. Mike panicked; he called Shelly who was sitting back at the hotel. She came as quick as she could. Mike called an ambulance, but Michael could not hold on long enough for help to get there ..he was gone. Shelly arrived and she and Mike stole a truck and a donkey trailer and fled Michael from the scene before the police arrived. They drove through the night until they were far away from the murder scene. They found a grassy field and buried Michael. Mike couldn't stand, instead he sat and stared blankly into the darkness despite Shellys attempts at comforting him. He had just lost his best friend who was only trying to save him. They stayed at the graveside for a week, pouring out liquor. Then Mike made a decision, he had to continue his dream that he had shared with his fallen homie. So two days later, Mike and Shelly crossed the Mexican border and three days after that they purchased a lot on a beach in Cancun. With his remaining money Mike built one of the most successful beach bars in Cancun. The bar's name was "Michael's Place." A year after Michael's Place was opened and running, Mike proposed to Shelly and they married two weeks later. Mike is now one of the richest men in Mexico and he owes it all to Michael. A short time after Michael was killed, Sharrol was checked into a mental hospital and is still there to this day. Mike's vision was complete, and with the help of his friend he was able to live the better life that he had always dreamed of.
