Mile Stone Informative Speech
What is a mile stone? Well, in olden days, a mile stone was a sign on the road to mark the distance to a place, actually made of stone. However, today we speak of mile stones as events marking a significant change or stage in development: an achievement, watershed event or benchmark. For example, Sam Wilson is celebrating 30 years of employment with Kemira this month. Congratulations Sam, that is quite an achievement.
For those of you that have not noticed, Kemira, here at Bushy Park, is approaching a significant safety mile stone: 5,000 days without a lost time accident. We are busy planning a celebration for when that mile stone is achieved. However, being somewhat superstitious, that is all I am going to comment on this subject now.

Hey Xoe, please talk to your following about Standing Rock. More people need to know about what’s happening, because it’s horrible. It seems as though our native people are losing once again. Police are tormenting them on their land. I’m not sure if you know about what is happening, but I feel like it’s important to know, or to educate as many people as possible on the subject. A short summary of this situation would be that there is a an oil pipeline being put through the Standing Rock reservation in North and South Dakota. If you didn’t know oil pipelines have high rates of leaking which would cause the Native Americans living there not be able to use the natural water sources such a lake and rivers. The pipes also will most likely exploded,…

These carvings would tell the travelers how far the distance is from the stone to the nearest town or city. This is very similar to today's mile marker signs. At the crossroads, the Papas would place a small stone at the core of the road in the center. This stone had a plus or a cross painted on it.…
