When embalming first began it was done in the home of the deceased, it was almost mandatory that a relative stay by the embalmers side and witness the whole procedure. Today it is totally reversed. All people, except apprentices are not to be in the room by law.…

Olds military career started off by him completing his primary flight training in the summer of 1942 at the Spartan School of Aviation in Tulsa, OK. Once Olds commissioned as a second lieutenant, he received an assignment to report to the West Coast for training on P-38 Light-nings. Part of achieving in a scholarly world is being able to accept my personal responsibility and learn from mistakes. My goals and values have greatly influenced my ability to become successful in college in many ways. I desire a higher education because I…
I am currently serving as the Assistant Detachment Commander of a Special Forces Operational Detachment Alpha, I am a career Soldier, and have been quite frankly, addicted to my job and taking a larger part in the world around me for the last 13 years. Whether I was a young leader on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border listening to the Voice of America or the BBC World Service on a small radio, I wanted more insight on the world I was part of. Much of this desire to know and participate more led to my progress through Special Forces, working in the intelligence field, and finally becoming a Warrant Officer. Pursing a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Strategic Studies and Defense Analysis (SSDA) seemed like a natural progression and an incredible…
When I graduated high school in 2013 I attended a community college in Pennsylvania for a semester. My thought on college in high school were “I don’t really want to continue my education for another four years”. That was until my high school counselor called me to her office seeing that I didn’t apply for schools. She explained that I wouldn’t be able to get a good job or ever own a house without a college degree, so that fear pushed me into continuing my education. My parents were the same way they also told me “most jobs would hire a college graduate over a high school graduate”. That was the final push towards the path of…

I have worked in career field for twenty years. I still have career goals and I have hit a ceiling due to my lack of a degree. I want to further my education and continue to advance in career. Part of me feels that I am to old to get my degree, but I have decided that I can do this, I can get my degree and now it's about me succeeding educationally. I want to complete school and have a degree. I want to know that I can achieve my dream of graduating from college. I realize that I am never to old to reach my goals. I want to go back and graduate so I can say that I am a college…
Having grown up in a single parent home with two sisters who did not complete high school, made the pressure for me to succeed unimaginable. The constant reminder of achieving greatness has stuck with me since I was eight years old. Throughout middle school I was top of my class, in high school I graduated cum laude with a 4.4 GPA and currently in my 1st year of college I am top of my intermediate/college algebra class, I scored the highest grade out of all 5 of my psychology teachers classes, and I have an A in my Philosophy class. My educational goals consist of gaining knowledge throughout my entire life, achieving higher than my goals, being as involved as I can possibly be with my college/ community, and continuing to prosper. Ever since…
Why I made the choice to return to college and complete my degree in Business System Administration is unique. I have thought about this for years and it’s a personal goal I want to accomplish. I have a great job in the military teaching new soldiers which is something I love and enjoy. I am ten years away from retiring and looking forward to life after the military. Why would a person that is in the middle of their career want to return to school? The answer to this question is that it’s a personal goal I’ve had for years to obtain a college degree. I have started and stopped several times due to my deployments and family commitments. I have tried on different occasions to start back but the military makes it almost impossible to plan ahead and commit to anything long term.…
Being in the military and going on deployments made it hard to attend a traditional college so I decided to attend an online college to have flexibility with my classes. The hardest part from all of these was to start the process of school and taking the placing exams to see where I fitted in the curriculum. After taking the placing exam and seeing the score I received I felt like I would never complete school because of how behind I was. My wife was one of the people that helped me through this and keep me motivated to continue with my education. There were some days that I felt like why am I doing this, I don’t understand this and I should just stay in the military and retire and not worry about school. I faced this way of thinking for a long time especially when classes were hard or got a bad grade on a test or essay. Eventually I was able to see that going to college even if I stayed in was going to help me succeed in the military and…
As a teenager I had many goals for myself in mind for the future. I decided that for my goals to happen I need to pursue a college degree after I graduated high school, but I knew that my parents wouldn’t be able to afford my college tuition. Before joining the service, I had plenty of part-time jobs as waitressing in different restaurants which at the time I thought it was a stressful job. If I had only known that going through army basic training was going to involved double the stress and aches I was going through as a waitress, I would have preferred to deal with rude customers, horrible working condition and long, stressful hours my way through college.…
