The law and its ever-changing characteristics intrigued me at a very early age. Growing up, I wanted to be a lawyer. My goal of becoming a lawyer was a bit impractical due to my procrastination after high school graduation and because of my past financial situation. Not knowing what to do then, led me to join the Navy. The Navy afforded me the opportunity to go to school while working and it also allowed me to change jobs so that I can choose something closely related to my goal of becoming an attorney. That’s when I became a Paralegal, or “Legalman” as the Navy calls it.…

There are many questions a person should ask before making the choice to enter into law school and move forward in this career path. Do I enjoy working closely with people regarding significant issues or events involving their lives? Can I empathize with a client’s situation, yet have the ability to objectively analyze the issues and their consequences in light of the existing law? Do I enjoy educating or teaching a person about a subject which he or she may be ignorant or have serious misconceptions? Am I able to articulate in a clear and concise manner my analysis of a problem to others, whether it is verbally or in writing? Do I enjoy being an advocate? Can I argue both sides of the question with enthusiasm? Do I like detail work? Do I enjoy searching for the facts of a situation? Do I like to read and study? After answering these questions, one can determine whether he or she should pursue a career in law.…
When I was 16 years old, something struck within me. As I sat in my public safety classroom, I was absorbed by all of the content that was coming towards me. The laws, the court cases, and the case studies piqued my interest. That moment, I realized that I have found my calling. Therefore, I have decided to pursue a profession as a Paralegal, based partly on my teacher, Don Hammond. Given my determined, technological, organizational skills the law career is the correct suit for me. I look forward to begin my life and profession as a paralegal.…

Programs are reinforced by the work of needs assessments. It is essential to preform needs assessments in order to enhance the program and meet the needs of a targeted population. Conducting a needs assessment for a program will allow researchers to put in the time, effort, and resources where needed, to emphasize the programs assets. Needs assessments will provide programs with better outcomes and services to all populations (Astramovich, 2011). Needs assessments are conducted in four stages, which include identifying goals, identifying population being assessed, collect needs data assessment, and analysis and interpretation of data (Astramovich, 2011). I will provide these steps of a needs assessment below for adult military personnel who…
The United States Armed Forces was first manned by young men that were drafted into the service. Today’s military is manned by a pool of men and women who have volunteered for the service. Recruiters main prospecting arena is high school campuses. They are looking for young men and women who are capable of keeping the Armed Forces an “all volunteer” service. Recruiters’ have focused on informing students of the various opportunities the Armed Forces have to offer. They also help the faculty and the community out as well. Military recruiters presence should not be feared in high schools but welcomed and appreciated if we are to keep the Armed Forces an “all volunteer” service.…
Social Policy. In 1999, the Pentagon decided to form a Domestic Violence Task Force comprised of 24 members, 12 civilian and 12 military (Somerville 2009). The task of the panel was to investigate and evaluate to issue of domestic violence within the military scope. In their 2001 initial, and only, report the task force referred to domestic violence as a “pervasive problem that transcends all ethnic, racial, gender, and socioeconomic boundaries” that would not be tolerated in the Department of defense (Klimp and Tucker 2001). The initial paragraphs of the report outline domestic violence as prohibitive to military readiness and addresses the need to improve response to, and prevention of, intimate partner violence by implementing appropriate…
I have chosen to follow my passion and pursue a degree in the field of law. I would like to either practice as a criminal defense lawyer or a family law attorney. Once I am more experienced in my field, I would like to open my own law firm which would practice multiple types of law or I would like to become a judge within my community. This path was inspired by the Independence Youth Court, a diversion court which I volunteer with. As a volunteer for the past…
Finding a career to pursue an be a challenging and long process. However, once a person narrows down their career field it become easier to decide on which path to choose. The criminal justice field has three different aspects that work together to ensure that justice is served. The first is police, which is where the careers like police officers are. The second is the courts where jobs like being a judge, or a lawyer. The third and final part is corrections where parole officers work. (Schmalleger)…
I believe I would make a good candidate for the United States military for several reasons. Three major reasons I think I would make a good candidate would be my extensive family history in the armed services, my determination towards improving myself, and a hard work ethic. With both of my grandfathers, one of my grandmothers, and a variety of aunts and uncles in the armed services I have received a lot of knowledge on what the military requires and the effect it can have on you. Along with a considerable amount of my relatives in the military there is disparity between the different jobs and time period in which they have served. On my father's side my grandfather served as a marine in World War II specifically in the Guadalcanal and grandmother…
