The word tribune as defined in the dictionary as an “office in Ancient Rome chosen by the Plebeians to protect their interests.” It is also the Latin word for tribe. The Plebeians are practically the most common of the Roman tribunes. The reason they were powerful …show more content…
is because they were running Rome’s Republic government. The reason they call both Roman and plebeian tribunes, well tribunes is because when the number of tribes that joined went to about 30 or more, the leader, which was called a tribunnus, called them tribunes. A tribunnus
was elected by the Roman people.
The clothing, to get a better picture of what the tribunes looked like, was a basic armor of Roman soldiers. They had a breastplate covering to protect the torso they called a Cuirass. Below the breastplate, they had edges that were low above the knees which were longtongue shapet lappets which was basically the leathered skirts they wore. Back then in Rome, everything was elected by the people until they had a proper Republic government. Roman tribunes, when they were starting out and haven't become a tribune yet, were divided in the following three groups in a legion: Ramnes, Luceres, and Tities. In a Shakespeare play, there are a few important Roman tribunes that are in this tragedy play.
The important characters that are in this play are listed in the following: Casca, Flavius, and Marullus. There is also two Roman generals, Julius Caesar and Cassius. Starting with Cascain this play , he is a Roman tribune that is currently working with Cassuis and Cicero, the Roman senator. All three of these characters are not fond with Caesar and are saying that he doesn't deserve to be up there or on top. They said they let him rule while they are the ones who let get to the place Caesar is in. This particular conversation starts when Caesar returns to Rome who has come back victorious after his battle with Pompey, who was the current ruler of Rome, and everyone celebrates Caesar, but forgets about the
respect they had for Pompey.
Now, Flavius and Marullus are upset and try to ruin this celebratation for Caesar.
They eventually had gotten punished for what they did and were never mentioned in this play. The story then turns over to the three main characters, Casca, Cassius, and Cicero. They are now planning how to finally giving Caesar what he deserves for being a bad person that they despise. Caesar.
Surprisingly, Caesar refuses the crown three times and from the stench of the the fat people he was surrounded by because the skinny people like Cassius was starting to bother him.
Also, Caesar could sense that Cassius and his friends were up to something. So eventually, Cassius comes up with a plan to trick Brutus, who is both Caesar’s nephew and a Roman noblemen. Brutus was offered a chance to help take down Caesar’s reign. Brutus refused, because he is like Caesar’s best friend for life. Anyway, Cassius’ plan is to write letters in different handwritings to make it look like Roman townspeople wrote them saying they want Brutus instead of Julius
Caesar.
Why is this important to the play written by William Shakespeare? It is important because Roman tribunes are chosen by the Roman townsfolk to protect them and defend them. They are going against them just to go take out
one person, Caesar. It kind of goes against everything they sort of stand for. Cassius and company are spending all this time and energy to destroy one man because they think he is the enemy. They are letting this power go to their head just to fulfill their desires to rule.
In conclusion, a Roman tribune is an officer assigned by the people of Rome to protect them and defend them from patricians and nobles. And they are important because this adds to their character and goes against what they think is right for them is really wrong.
