INTRODUCTION
The main objective of conducting an organization study is to get familiar with the nature and working of an organization. It helps students to develop a practical as well as a theoretical knowledge. It provides an opportunity to study the activities of an organization by direct observation.
MILMA KOLLAM DAIRY is situated in Kollam district on the banks of Ashtamudi lake, Thevally .It is a welldeveloped and progressing unit of MILMA. It was established in 1985 and it is functioning under the
Trivandrum Region Co-operative Milk Producers Union Ltd (TRCMPU) .The administration of this unit is vested in Board of Directors and it is functioning under the co-operative principles. It was formed under operation flood program as a chilling plant and later it was developed into a processing plant .It has seven departments and has a dairy manager who is in charge of managing and assisting all the activities of the unit. In this dairy milk is collected from various co-operative societies and 40% milk from inside the district and 60% from outside the state through National Dairy Development Board(NDDB) based dairies. The main products of this dairy are milk (MILMA SMART& MILMA RICH) and milk products such as Ghee
(AGMARK), Sambaram and Curd. MILMA KOLLAM DAIRY is an ISO 9001: 2002 certified company and
“quality” is the keyword of MILMA. Now MILMA products placed a key position in the market and in the consumers mind.
Since this is a study to identify the functions of each departments and the functioning of the Kollam dairy as a whole will prove worth enough.

    MRCMPU LTD., Palakkad Dairy is one of the three dairies under Malabar Regional Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union Limited. This dairy came in to existence in 1967 as Palakkad Co-operative Milk supply union limited under the Madras Co-operative societies Act. In 1978 KLD & MM Board had taken over this dairy and it was under their control until 1983 .In 1983 Kerala Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Limited taken over this dairy from KLD & MM Board.
