Mince pies have a unique sweet and savory taste, going along with dried fruits and minced meat. This is a traditional treat for Christmas time in England. Ancient Middle Eastern recipes including meats, various fruits and spices were based for this British recipe during 13th century. People in different areas were calling this tasty mince pie in many names. “Shrid pie”, “Mutton pie”, and during Christmas time it was “Christmas pie”.
Normally, with a mixture of minced meat, a wide range of fruits, and spices such as nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves in a pastry cup was associated together as a simple mince pie. Ingredients
375 g of short crust pastry
200 g of minced meat
½ an apple (peeled and chopped into small pieces)
2 balls of stem ginger (finely chopped)
75 g of dried cranberries
50 g of dried apricots (finely chopped)
Mixed spices (1-2 pinches)
A splash of sherry, orange juice or brandy
1 large egg
1 table spoon half-skimmed milk
Icing sugar (for dusting)
Unsalted butter (for greasing)
Plain flour (for dusting)
