Mind and Community Involvements
1. What are your biases in going to the community and how were these corrected? Before, I tend to believe that it is better to sleep and stay at home than to attend the community involvement in NSTP. I thought that it by just simply attending the class for attendance I can already careless of what is happening and rely on the donations that my absent group mates on the next meeting. But then as time pass by, I felt that my heart was already attached with them, especially when a “nanay” even made “biko” for the whole class. I think the smile in the faces of the nanays every time we organize an activity and game made me realize and correct the wrong perceptions I had.
2. What needs to be at stake for our community involvements initiatives to be successful? I think every meeting, our shameless selves are at stake. We’re at stake because every meeting, we try our best to make the nanays happy by joking around. We also don’t know if a certain activity will be a hit with the group. Therefore our shameless selves are jokes and activities are at stake. It needs to be at stake because It will be boring if we just make simple activities that’ll eventually make the nanays be bored. 3. How will you be able to continue your involvement in the communities after your NSTP? I am currently part of the Commission on Youth of our parish, Mary Immaculate Parish. The commission on youth organizes outreach activities to the informal settlers that are located in the jurisdiction of our parish. We even sometimes have health and dental missions that aims to help the poor get free consultation and medicines. I will continue and try my best to continue to participate in outreaches and community involvements.

Plessy v. Ferguson is a court case that argued for “separate but equal” doctrine which the Supreme Court decided states could segregate public buildings, rooms, and other accommodations by race in 1896. Basically, the Supreme Court gave the stamp of approval to legally segregate facilities such as schools, streetcars and trains in Plessy v. Ferguson decision. Even though, the Negroes and Whites had their own school, the school for Whites were better than Negoes. The significance of Plessy v. Ferguson was that it lead to Jim Crow laws becoming the law of the land because the Supreme Court ruled that the Jim Crows laws didn’t imply that Negroes were of an…
