Mind and Heart: Rational Decisions, Emotions, and Affections

Mind is often associated with rational decisions, and heart is associated with emotions and affections. The mind offers beneficial suggestions for the person himself while disregarding others. Whereas, the heart offers self-sacrifice while keeping in view the devotion to others. It is only logical to accept the above fact to be true. In my opinion, a person has different duties to perform in his life. These duties include his own life as well as of the people around him. Each of these duties must be dealt with differently. In some cases, he has to go with mind and in some, with heart. On one hand, the mind or reasoning guides a person towards what is most favourable for himself. This, however, may be detrimental to others. Therefore, it is safe to assume that while dealing with affairs involving oneself, one should use his head to find the most effective methods. Conversely, while dealing with others, one must take care of their emotions. When taking care of other people's needs, a person often finds himself in a rather appalling situation. Despite this, he can only continue helping others if he understands their needs which can only be done by the heart. Most importantly, we must use our head and heart in a balance - whether a situation is fruitful for ourselves or to those around us. We have to use both mind and emotions. We must be careful not to overdo anything. In summary, we are not alone in this world therefore we must develop such skills with which we can live with our fellow humans most suitably. For doing so, we will need both mind and heart. In some cases, we may use them to relinquish things to others, or in other cases, we can use them to coax and cajole others for our benefits.
