I would like to thank Mrs Diciaula for monitoring this debate and you guys for listening and asking questions. Your decisions are the best privilege that you have, the only privilege that matters in the United States is the privilege of making free decisions- we all have that privilege in a free country. Although it seems greedy, sometimes people need to see the benefits on the other side of the table before making important decisions, important decisions like applying for your first job. According to my poll, 60% of the our fellow classmates have jobs. Despite the fact that our parents probably pushed us into getting these jobs, I have no doubt that 100% of those students with jobs considered
Money that is worth 14 times more than what it was to be produced. But where does this money go? It goes from the consumer to the producer. And from the producer it is dispersed throughout production and employees. Employees are paid based on a salary. Roughly 1 million citizens are paid $7.25, the current minimum wage. I believe that the minimum wage should be raised to $15, but this cannot happen in the blink of an eye. I support the Fight For 15, which is a movement that proposes increasing the minimum wage through time to eventually reach $15. Raising the minimum wage to $15 would be beneficial not only to the economy but the wellbeing of the citizens in it for 4 main reasons: it will reduce poverty, reduce inequality, cause a surplus of workers, and even promote a healthier population. The US poverty ranking is the highest in the developed world. According to a 2014 Congressional Budget Office report, increasing the minimum wage to $9 would lift 300,000 people out of poverty, and an increase to $10.10 would lift 900,000 people out of poverty. A minimum wage of $15 would also reduce inequality.
