They were willing to get very close over and over, but one of them would always start to back away. They used the whole stage, going from side to side or around each other to avoid touching or getting too close. When Ferdinand talked to Miranda, his face gave away all of his emotions. It was evident when he felt passionate and gave a more romantic feel between the two. Miranda and Ferdinand seem the most childlike and innocent in the Stratford Festival production. Every time one of them talks, all they do is give off an ignorant, childlike, careless smile. Every facial expression made them seem more like children than the other productions. The way in which they talked also seemed relatively immature. Some words and sentences were rushed or nervous while they had childlike hand motions most adults do not use. When Miranda said her name on the accident, she gave a young response. They also seem very wary of each other since they would not even touch hands at the end of their conversation. Since the stage was so large, the production was able to make the area they were talking about seem like a different place. When Miranda first walked out, it looked like she came from a totally different place, not just from backstage because of the use of lighting. It also made Ferdinand look like he had to travel farther to carry the logs to complete his work. With a larger stage, the actors were able to run around then come together many different times to show they were nervous but drawn to each other. The mood seems less intense from the previous production and more romantic since they kept coming back together in the light. In the Stratford Festival production, the mood seems the most relaxed. The stage is very bright and does not have much to it besides the logs and branches in the background. Again, the stage is very bright while around it is dark, which makes the stage seem like its own place. The light to dark contrast makes it seem like Ferdinand probably walked a decent distance to carry the logs to the right place.
