When we think of processes we think of several steps that would allow us to accomplish some sort of task. As such a business process, according to Appian, is a collection of linked tasks or activities which find their end in delivery of a service or product to a client. Most organizations use business processes to help them achieve their goals. These processes must have well defined inputs, which give additional value to the good or service being produced.
FedEx business process is as follow: the packages are collected from homes and businesses and are carried to the company’s warehouse. When the packages reaches the company’s warehouse the package is scanned from a portable device which links with the central system that allows FedEx to ensure that the package has been collected also at this point a device is place on the package so the customer can track the product. All the packages are then sent to a big hub called the “sorting center”. At the hub on the sorting belt, the packages volume and weight are computed so the price can be determined for the customer. The packages are also separated on the belt in terms of destination (region or country). Packages that are un-sized and un-read are physically separated. When separated according to destination the packages are filled into big containers and weighed. These containers are then placed into jets for delivery. The whole process of controlling and monitoring is taken place at the airport, also while the packages are on the jest there is continuous monitoring by FedEx. After the jets arrive at its destination, the container is offloaded and the packages are once again scanned and sorted so it can reach its final destination in FedEx delivery line.
