What is Diversity?
Diversity is the concept of acceptance and respect. By the principle that diversity is a right to all children, the below must be ensured:
· Gender is respected
· Race is respected
· Religion and beliefs are respected
· Wealth is respected
· All childen are accepted
· Children are respected as individuals
How does inclusive practice promote diversity?
Inclusive pratice promotes and supports diversity by allowing children to feel equal and helps to promote appreciation of diversity in others. Because of this, children will understand that people are different and will enjoy learning about their differences.
Example of diversity...
In the setting there might be a child of muslim ethnicity who doesn't celebrate Christmas because they celebrate Eid. In a diverse setting the practitioner could set up an activity were the children would make Eid cards to send home to their parents. By doing this the child's religions and beliefs are respected.
EQUALITY
What is equality?
Equality is the right to be equal. By the principle that equality is a right for all children the below must be ensured:
· Gender is treated equally
· Ethnicity is treated equally
· Nobody with a disability is treated unfairly
· Religion and beliefs are treated equally
· Race is treated equally
· Wealth is treated equally
How does inclusive practice promote equality?
Inclusive practice promotes and supports equality by allowing children to feel equal to each other. Because of the children won't feel embarrassed or scared by being different to others.
Example of equality...
In the setting there might be a child who's only form of mobility is a wheelchair. The setting is having a nature walk in the woods to learn about the environment around them. In a setting with equality the child will be able to attened this trip regardless the fact he can't walk. The practitioners would ensure that the environment has enough space for the child to move around
