Miss American Beauty Pageants Argumentative Essay

Since 1945, Miss America has offered scholarships to winners and now to all the women who compete as well. Transitioning from simple contest of beauty, it has become become one of the largest providers of scholarships for young women in America. Testing contestants on current events, public speaking, talents and fitness, women must be well verse in all of these categories to compete in the pageant. Competing in beauty pageants, women are encouraged to better themselves by obtaining these qualities and sharpening them. Each year the newly crowned Miss america becomes a spokesperson, traveling the nation and spring awareness on current issues. Despite all these positive aspects of the Miss America Organization, many still oppose and question the ethics of beauty pageants. A hot topic of debate is the swimsuit position of the pageants. The swimsuit contest has always been used to judge a women's body and fitness but ever since becoming an organization that awards scholarships, Miss America has been criticized for its requirement. Unlike most other scholarships that awarded based on academic success, Miss America's
