Gold light streamed through the window, brightening the little lonely room- the cupboard like room- which is where Miss Brill sat stroking her old fur. Before neatly folding it back into the box and leaving for the Jardin Publiques she quietly apologises to the fur. The sun was warm but the air was chilly, it was a Saturday morning in the middle of spring. Miss Brill would usually go to the park on a Sunday wearing her nice fluffy fur… but it was time for a change in routine.
The band was playing loud, happy music; today instead of walking and sitting on her ‘special’ seat and being an extra on this ongoing play, she was going to be the star, the main role and she was going to change the series of events. She watched an elegant looking lady wonder across the court, she had amazement in her eyes. Miss Brill caught these amazed eyes drift as she lifts her heavy legs taking one slow step at a time.
The dark music turned into a loud beat "The Brute! The Brute!" Miss Brill’s heart was thumping in her chest as though it was trying to escape. Miss Brill’s slow steps turned into a march she approached this lady and a wide smile spread across her face when she introduced herself. The two ladies moved towards Miss Brill’s special seat. Many hours past as the sun travelled through the sky the chilly air turned into a bright sun gleaming down keeping their backs warm.
The band was playing calm and peaceful music whilst Miss Brill and the elegant lady finally got up to go their separate ways. As Miss Brill wondered home with her head in the clouds. She was full of delight. Today as she stopped at the bakers she brought a slice-honey. Miss Brill hurried home to her rather small, but cozy room to put the kettle on and to eat her
