Miss Maudie To Kill A Mockingbird
Have you ever been accused for something you didn’t do? In the book “To Kill A Mockingbird” a black man Tom Robinson is falsely accused of rape but Atticus finch is defending him. Atticus believes that everyone should be treated fairly. Also Atticus’s neighbor Miss Maudie takes time to enjoy life and tries to be as positive as possible. She share these beliefs and becomes an example to Atticus’s children Jem and scout finch.
Atticus believes in treating people fairly. For instance on page 100 Atticus says the reason he defends tom robinson is “I couldn’t hold my head up in town, I couldn’t represent this town’s legislature, I couldn’t even tell you or jem not to do something again”. This is an example of how Atticus treats Tom Robinson equally no matter the color of his skin by defending him like how he would defend a white man when the rest of the town will despise Atticus because of it. conversation Atticus tells scout “Even though we were licked 100 years before we started doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t try”. What Atticus means is that they have most likely already lost the case before it has even started but Atticus believes that if he gave up it wouldn’t be the right thing to do. Lastley Atticus tells Scout and Jem on page 119 “ It is a sin to kill a Mockingbird”. This symbolises how it is a sin to harm, accuse, and even kill someone that has done nothing wrong Atticus does a great job of living by this analogy. Atticus Finch is a believer in treating others fairly and equally.
Miss Maudie is a positive person and believes you shouldn’t spend your life worrying.
First on page 60 Miss Maudie is talking to jem and scout and tells them “That some men worried about the next world that they never learn to to live this one”. Next Miss Maudie is explaining to Jem and Scout that you shouldn’t spend your whole life studying religion so much that you don’t get any pleasure out of it. Next after Miss Maudie’s house burnt down on page 97 she tells us “I’ve always wanted a smaller house it gives me more room for my yard”. Harper Lee does a good job on showing us that Miss Maudie has a positive attitude even if her house had just burnt down. Also in chapter 10 on page 130 Miss Maudie states “People in their right mind never take pride in their talents”. Miss Maudie knows that if you are good at something you shouldn’t get to full of yourself because of it and in the end you will be a more humble and positive person. Therefore Miss Maudie has a positive outlook on life and teaches jem and scout to be the same
way.
