MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. IMPACTED THE CIVIL RIGHTS

How did Martin Luther King Jr. impact the civil rights movement? Martin Luther King Jr. impacted the civil rights movement thru trying his is early life, his adult life, and his death and Legacy. Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia. His parent’s names are Alberta William King, which was his mother, and his father was Martin Luther King Sir this was his father. His mother worked as a teacher and she taught him how to read and write. His father was a minster. Martin would listened to his father preach and that’s how he learned big words. He had two siblings name Christine, which was his sister, and Alfred Daniel which brother his brother. King went to a private school and yes he did attend college. He attend Morehouse college is an all black male college. He major in sociology and relieved his BA. He also studies the teaching of Mahatmas Gandhi while at Morehouse College. During the 1950’s king became active in the civil rights movement. He fought for civil rights and racial equality. He participated in the Montgomery, Alabama, bus boycott and many other peaceful protests for the unfair treatment of African- Americans. He works as a Baptist Minister and he preached nonviolence. ”In 1955 on a cold December day in Montgomery, Alabama, Rosa Parks was coming home from work. A white man told her to get up from her seat on the bus so he could sit. She said No, and she was arrested” (pg.11). This means that the whites were more superior in this case whites would have to sit in the front and black would have to sit in the back. This matters because blacks and whites were not treaded equal when the civil rights movement was happening. Led to the first event he did the Montgomery bus boycott. The Montgomery bus boycott was when the African-American community did not use the buses. Instead they walk or share cars to go to school and work. December 1955, the buses were completely empty. They also traveled by walking, horse, carts, or rode mules. He also was apart of the March on Washington. “On that day, over 200,000 people of all races and faith went to Washington to declare their Civil Rights. There they heard Martin Luther King Jr., deliver on of the most famous speeches of all times “I Have a Dream” Speeches”(pg.29) This means that the people that came to hear Martin Luther King Jr. was with him at Washington D.C and the speech was August 29,1963. This matter because the 200,000 people that came to support him was not against him. “I have a Dream that one day I Alabama little Black boys and Black girls and White boys and White girls as sisters and brothers” (pg. 21). This means that he wanted us to be created equal. This matters because King was trying to stop segregation. It happens at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C, on August 28, 1963. Another event was the Civil Rights act. The Civil Rights Act was passed before he died. Also, King was with President Johnson at the signing of the Civil Rights Act on July 2, 196 4 and it was a huge success. The last, event was unfair treatment this was when the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) wearing white cloaks and hood, confronting a group of black people I Florida in 1938. The KKK would beat blacks just because they were white and thought they were too superior to many blacks. “Where jailed and beaten and murdered, but they kept on marching. Some blacks Americans wanted to fight back with their fists. King convinced the not to, by reminding them of power love “(pg.17). This means that he never used violence to solve anything he always talk but never fought. This matters because if he had let them fight more and more black people would have died or got beaten or hurt. Also, we would have segregation today if he would have let them fought. Martin Luther King Jr. died on April 4, 1968 and in Memphis Tennessee. He was assassinated by a white man named James Earl Ray. King was assassinated at Motel Lorraine and that was King’s last campaign. The Campaign was called the Poor People’s campaign. It was organized in 1967, and all different races came out. He died because he was trying to make men and women, blacks and whites have equal rights. That was that was his last impact.
In conclusion, King was a black male who fought for equal rights. He also led the March on Washington and he preached nonviolence where he did not fight but talk for his rights. He was born on January 15, 1929. His parent’s names are Alberta William King and Martin Luther King Sir. He went to a private school. It was an all-black male college. He died on April 4, 1968. He was assassinated because he wanted us to have equal rights.
