This examination helps identify and diagnose issues and problems and may bring to the surface alternative goals and plans for the firm. Next, the advantages and disadvantages of these goals and plans should be evaluated against one another. Once a set of goals and a plan have been selected, implementation involves communicating the plan to employees, allocating resources, and making certain that other systems such as rewards and budgets are supporting the plan. Finally, planning requires instituting control systems to monitor progress toward the goals.…

Bob Edwards’ Edward Murrow and the Birth of Broadcast Journalism is a short biography about the man that established and revolutionized broadcast journalism. Bob Edwards has ample experience in broadcast journalism as a radio news and talk show host for over 30 years (Biography.com). It is no surprise that Edwards takes a particular interest in writing about Edward Murrow since he certainly influenced Edwards’ career in radio news. While he conducted most of his research through secondary sources, he relied heavily on books by close co-workers of Murrow. With that said, Edward Murrow and the Birth of Broadcast Journalism is a great streamlined tale of Murrow’s journey from a logger, to an education advocate, to broadcast journalism.…

To provide for his family, he took on several jobs, including fixing and delivering radios, working on a logging crew, working as a door to door salesman of electrical products, and as an electrician on the railroad. With all of his professional ventures, it wasn’t until he got a supervisory position for a charitable organization managed by George Everson and Leslie Gorrell that the opportunity to bring his idea into fruition revealed itself. Everson and Gorrell were impressed by how well Philo did his job, and after being told of Philo’s ideas about electronic television, they saw a business opportunity and decided to form a partnership with Philo and financially supported the execution of his television idea, a partnership that was christened as Everson, Farnsworth, and Gorrell, and very shortly after, Philo and Pem were…

With the new age of Entertainment came a launch of a History-based Dramatization radio show that would take listeners through a portal each week and report of the great events of the past. You are there, a show created by Goodman Ace, was originally called CBS is there and was one of the shows that took hold in households. “They began the show with "live" background coverage of the events unfolding. Then the sounds and characters involved proceeded. Often participants are interviewed, or the show cuts to another reporter 's evaluation of the event” (“You are there”). The events that the show produced, were obviously before radio but the producers strived to bring this re-enactment alive and make it seem as a live reporting. Hosts of the show stayed in character and “uses of sound effects, actors and the reporters "coverage" in an exciting and thought-provoking way” (“You are There”). One could now re-live historical entertainment straight from the comfort of one’s home surrounded by friends and family. With the shows now booming entertainment business, facts were mislaid in a fictional play.…

The Alpha project really caught my attention. Before Module 1, I thought that the producer almost always dealt with scripts that were already written and they had simply decided to push the creation of a movie with the script they had selected. However, the Alpha project surprised me in that the writer was commissioned to write a script and the producer's job was on hold, or disrupted, due to the writer/director. Thus, I learned that the producer's job is intense and they have to interact with the writer more than I originally thought. The example that the Alpha project provided demonstrated the crucial lesson of how attention to detail in the script throughout the pre-production and production process is important, as the UK Team had noted that "the draft suffered from mixed-genre confusion" (Finney 111) which would hinder the film's marketability and distribution. This project also exhibited that being assertive is key to being successful, as well as the importance of staying on top of the director, writer, etc. that they have hired and not sitting back, waiting for something to be completed.…
