Good Afternoon. I want to thank you all for coming out and spending the time with me to go over the topic of Why Banning the Use of Cell Phones Nationwide While Driving Should be Mandatory.
Okay, I see we have a mixed group here, I see some young folks, some middle aged folks and above. That’s great. Do we have any lawyers or doctors out there? How about the young group? Waiting on a job or a date?
Let me start with asking you, “How many of you had your cell phone ring or a text come in while you were driving here today?” “It’s okay, I did.” How many of you answered it? Okay, I see some hands. It comes natural to us doesn’t it? When the cell phone first made its appearance we only used it in emergency situation and it was never something that could cause us life or death as it can today as we use them for virtually everything.
Did anyone answer their phone or text on the way here? How many of you swerved just a bit into the left lane answering that phone call or answering that text or maybe hit the strips for the truckers that bump their tires so they do not fall asleep? Has that happened to you? It has happened to me. It catches you by surprise right, maybe makes your heart flutter a bit. Of course it does, because you could have just caused a wreck. This is one of the reasons we need to ban cell phone use while driving. Oh, I know. I see fear right now on some of the teens faces thinking, but what if that is Nick finally saying he will go to the movies with me? I got to look and answer back. I also see the attorney out there saying in his head, what if they just came back with an indictment or the doctor thinking I might have twins to deliver. Well all these may be true, but if you wreck you won’t be doing anything for a long time. The best thing we can do as responsible drivers is pull over and answer our phones and texts.
