This assignment seeks to provide a swot analysis on the University of the Westren Cape. By completing the swot analysis we plan to firstly, document the relevant swot quadrants (strengths, weakness, opportunity and threats) with regard to this tertiary institution and provide further justification of the points by conducting interviews with several students and a staff member to gain further insight. Secondly I plan to provide suggestions of how information technology/systems can maintain currents strengths, capitalize on opportunities, mitigate threats and manage weaknesses by providing examples of how this has been achieved in other institutions. Lastly this paper seeks to answer the question of which institution (private or public) provides the best education.

Question 1:
This part of the assignment shall focus on the swot analysis of the University of Western Cape and document the relevant swot quadrants (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats).
1.1 STRENGTHS * Excellent reputation in Law and Pharmacy * Law faculty has reputation for producing quality, highly marketable graduates * Tuition fees are very competitive, in relation to the programs offered * High level of absorption of students living in surrounding urban areas * Diverse student body * Close proximity to public transport routes * Location * Highly qualified body of lecturers * 200+ degree, diploma certificate programs available * 82% of UWC graduates have successful careers * 50% of UWC academic staff hold doctorates * Student political institutions 1.2 WEAKNESSES * Lack of student life (pride within the University and extracurricular activities) * Image of University to top prospective students * Registration process * Administration (staff, procedures and training) * Funding (availability of internal and external bursaries) * Lack of student accommodation on campus * Lack of computer labs *
