DE: What is your occupation?
R: I am the owner of the Standard Oil Company.
DE: How did you achieve this position?
R: I went into business as a young man and became successful in a partnership with other businessmen. Then, I began buying up oil refineries until I had about 97% of all oil refineries in the country.
DE: Mr. Rockefeller, what else did you do in order to become so successful?
R: I have adopted various efficient business practices.
DE: Is one of them a trust? Are you acquainted with this word?
R: Yes. It is when several large companies are controlled by a single Board of Directors, known as a trust.
DE: And, have you engaged in such a trust?
R: Yes. I created a trust like this with several other oil companies.
DE: Mr. Rockefeller, are you familiar with the term petroleum?
R: Of course. I mass produce refined petroleum.
DE: How do you benefit the community by doing so?
R: Well, first, my practices have created many jobs for the people. In addition, this is the only way to meet the demands of our industrial age.
DE: You’re known as one of the most successful businessmen, and is quite wealthy. Do you give back to the society?
R: Absolutely. I have contributed large sums of money to deserving charities to make our society better for ALL. I always give back.
