While reading this poem, it made me feel sympathetic towards Hailie and Alaina (Eminem’s daughters) because their parents separated/divorced when they were very young. As stated in the poem, ‘And you and Laney were too young to understand it’ They were too young to understand why their parents had to split up. This made think why couldn’t they wait to split when they are a little bit older so they could understand? This made me understand that some parents care about their happiness over their children. Mockingbird meaning a repetition of calls. As well already know, the mother was put in prison. This could have been for a number of things. For example, since Eminem had to go to California to pursue his music career, Kimberly (wife/mother) probably felt very stressed. Home alone with two kids must have been hard for her as they were having finance problems. Kimberly fought it easier to solve all her problems with drugs. In her perspective, this could have been a normal thing for her because a mockingbird meaning repetition, her parents must have went to drugs to solve all their problems. This is normal for Kimberly.
