The Northern Mockingbird thrills people with its impressive vocal songs(Janssen). These tiny, gray birds put all their color into their personalities as they sing almost endlessly(All About Birds). Most that live in the northern range migrate south for winter. Those that live in the south are typically year round residents. Dispersal in migration is the spreading of birds away from others and the movement of leaving one place and leaving some behind(Animal Diversity Web). Northern Mockingbirds are diurnal migrants meaning they fly mainly during the daytime when migrating (Thomas). Populations are extensive and not currently of conservation concern. There are an estimated 45,000,000 Northern Mockingbirds worldwide (Animal Diversity Web).
In conclusion, Northern Mockingbirds have very unique characteristics. They have remarkable singing abilities even computerized auditory analysis are often unable to detect the differences between the original source and the mockingbird’s imitation. They can recognize people who they think are threatening their nest. Also, they are partially migratory. So, next time you are thinking of touching a mockingbird’s nest be prepared; you never know what might
