Modern Day Witch Hunt More than 18 million citizens were put in concentration camps in Western Europe during 1939 through 1945. Approximately 11 million people died during those time with 1 million of them being children. Adolf Hitler, who was the Chancellor of Germany, targeted people who had different beliefs then him. This is why the Holocaust is a modern day "witch hunt". Holocaust is similar to the "witch hunt" in Salem because of how people were prosecuted, the conditions they were put through, and the fear in the civilians. In the early 1940s, The Holocaust was a dangerous time period to live through. It was a disaster where people in germany that Hitler did not like, such as the Jews, would be killed by the Nazi. Not only jews, but all races, all ages, and all religion were eliminated without any justice. The concentration camps in Germany were for jews and others to be tortured, but mainly to be killed “without legal proceedings.”(Engel). Hitler put those people through the camps who had different beliefs than he had. The Holocaust is a time period that all people should have a moment of silence for those who lost their lives because they were different. They both killed and tortured people because they were upset. Nazis would put Jews in concession camps to do slave work but most time they would give them no food or water so they had no choice other then to suffer and die. Just as in “The Crucible”, Abigail Williams would accuse people of witchcraft and the jury would arrest them and put them in jail or hang them infront of the town. Hitler and Abigail both felt more in change when people were being sent off to die. People in the town of Salem feared Abigail as to the Jews of the early 1940s feared Hitler.
