Have you ever wondered if letting children listen to whatever music they wanted to would ever have a bad influence on them? Parents today try and control what their kids listen to, but they sometimes end up failing. Since teens and young adults have the largest influence on music, they are the ones who will decide what will be the most popular music genre in pop culture. Some parents believe that letting their children listen to “gangster rap” or any other form of harmful and vulgar music will turn them into a psychopathic cop killer. With the this being true in some cases, it can be a cause for concern. The problem that most parents actually have with these types of harmful music is that it changes the way their children act and speak towards…
Selwyn Duke describes on his periodical about the power of the music influence people. He states that if individual can be taught to read with rhymes and songs, then he or she can also learn the same way what is wrong and right. He mentions how music can be used to provide a positive education, such teaching kids on healthy eating habits. But, the most intriguing is how music and culture has impacted the people. How it intrigues kids from sounds that they have never hear and from things that they have never seen, such as a young girl might get a maternal instinct when she hears the sound of a baby crying. As the culture changes, so does the music because each generation finds the last generation music unappealing. The author also describes how each style…
The music that we have today is shaped by the culture that we live in because most of the composers today write about their own lives. Take Rap music most of the rappers are writing song about how they didn’t have anything as children and as teenager so they had to rob and steel to make a living. They also write about sex and drugs and how it makes them feel. The young people who listen and watch these music videos look at all the money they have and the lives that they lead and they try to go out and do the same so they can have that life also.…
Music, a defining aspect of Human culture for centuries, is influenced heavily by the social institutions of the time. This can be most evident in “pop”, short for “popular”, music. Music is a demonstrative language of culture. It tells a story, conveys ideas, opinions, and emotions of life experiences. Music has the power to link generations. In recent history such themes include Jazz and blues, the Big Band era, country, rap, and various other genres of music. Each of these classes of music are drawn from and represent the particular culture and time of the background of the artist or the events that inspired it.…
More than likely, a great deal of the music that you are familiar with is music being produced today. Today’s music, in all its variable forms, can be thought of as popular music. Popular music is any music since industrialization in the mid-1800s that is in line with the tastes and preferences of the middle class. When we break this definition down, we find that popular music encompasses a wide range of music: from rock to rap and from country to heavy metal music. These forms of music have been influenced by many of the same earlier forms of music throughout history. We might also note that popular music today has an economic component. In other words, popular music is often produced and distributed in a way that creates profits for the artists and music companies. This may be tied into areas such as concerts and merchandise, as well as the actual music product.…

I was blessed with a parent who gave me the freedom of listening to any kind of music I liked. The genre of music I listened to the most was rock music. There was always a diverse sound to the music. When I reached my teen years, I found a music that had a strong sound to it; I connected with it. That sound came from heavy metal music. Heavy metal has changed and opened up many new styles or sub-genres since it came out in the late 60’s and into the 70’s. It started out in the 80’s with glam or thrash metal, then into the 90’s with alternative or nu metal, and now in the 2000’s, death or black metal was brought in.…
What does music mean to you? Do you think it’s changed from the different styles of music and the way that music sounds from when it started? Music can play a big part and role on society. There are many different types of music and music festivals in today’s society. Music has changed a lot within the past few decades. Music festivals have pretty much stayed the same. People can be judged on the type of music that they listen to as well as the way that they dress. In this essay I will consider how music relates to a sociological theory, three social concepts, how music has changed, peoples clothing appearance, race in relation to music, TV in relation with music, different type of music magazines, the radio, and music festivals in society.…
First, Aldous Huxley says that music is selling the wrong image to the audience. I agree with him. Today we are attacked by music commercial or promotion advertised on radio. By selling music to these "hungry" kids, the artist makes money. Why are we buying a false truth? Today's music has nothing but curse words. I mean we do have jazz, soul music, country ECT. But, the biggest music sales are pop or hip-hop music. Hip-Hop music consists of only curse words, and an encouragement of "gangster act" or violence. Is that good? Today, many kids try to adapt or act like their favorite artist whom they see on television. These artists are not only selling their music but they also sell their own brand named clothes and other accessories.…
Popular culture is the ‘quantity over quality’ result of a society’s generational interests. Trevor Dunn, an American musician once said “Pop culture is not about depth. It’s about marketing, supply and demand, consumerism.” Pop culture defines the extremes of real culture; we want to see and hear and feel things that push the norms and limitations of everyday life. America has become desensitized to the violence, the scandal, and the oversaturated reality of popular media. It’s important to remember that society only follows popular culture; it’s merely the creation of the few rich, selfish individuals who put it on for us to mindlessly enjoy.…
Music Idolism is affecting the world today as many people are following the trend set by artists and it changes the younger generation’s opinion on music and how it should be played.…
The actual meaning behind music has downgraded. Songs that are popular among-st us, not only the adolescence, have become more relative to sex, drugs and gang life. It makes people believe that sex doesn 't need meaning behind it and that drugs are the only way to become "popular". We have turned our future into a bunch of low-lives, glued to things that seem like the "fun life". The generation of music has gone backwards, from meaningful to constant references of women and men as discriminatory words. Of course this isn 't the only time when drugs and sex have been popular, but it has become the subject of music, and influencing our generation. With the type of music we have out here, people care more about being a part of the "in-crowd" than being themselves and who they are. Not to mention thanks to the pressure of drinking so much we 've degraded our communications to the world about our feelings to as many acronyms to avoid actually speaking. It has also demented relationships. It 's hard for a guy or gal these days to know for a fact that their relationship is stable because of how we act due to the brainwashing in music. Not only that, but it is considered "the life to live" because it 's become a multi-million dollar industry, such as Young Money and YMCMB. People have started to believe that to make their musical talent go places, they have…
Popular music of today also contains negative messages. In a graph of the number of violence acts in the music of today, the number of times that sexual violence against women mentioned was 32, compared to the 21 times in rap music (Source B). Furthermore, by the time girls are in 11th grade they listen to a half-hour more of music than boys each day (Source A). Girls are listening to more music than boys and the messages in the songs are talking badly about girls. This may cause more young women to think that it is acceptable to be treated and talked about…
The question now becomes what can be done about it? Singer or rappers have a right to express themselves so censorship is not an option and telling teenagers to stop listening to it will not work. It is the music producers’ jobs to understand the type of influence they have over the youth and make the change themselves. For example, some rappers in sub-Saharan Africa promote abstinence in their rap songs and the youth are positively affected by this message. So if singer changed their messages and talked more about safe sex or abstinence, committed relationships, respecting women, not drinking, smoking, using drugs, or violence as a way to solve problems then teenagers would not be as reckless and they would make more responsible decisions. But many music companies are not willing to make this change, so it is up to the individual to realize the effect music has on them and make a change for…
Classical music in my opinion is very calm and soft, a type of music that to others can be very boring and would just put them to sleep. I believe that every piece of music composed and played on the radio has a message and in classical music as well, it just a bit more difficult to understand and listen to that message when we don’t have anyone signing it. Classical music gives us the open liberty to incorporate whatever we want to think about while listening to a piece. Many people believe that classical music is old fashioned and without rhythm, but I think is a great type of music for many reasons because if we stop and look around us music is a huge part of our lives and it has to do with the way generation keeps changing. Classical music gives a person peace and tranquility, sort of like therapy. People like classical music that would be a stereotype. Music these days has evolved so much that some who are older may enjoy music that brings them a memory to their past and more in line to what the listened to in their younger years. They may have an attachment to certain classical music composers, for example Beethoven who was an excellent composer and composed the best classical music of the time.…
