In “A Failure in Generalship”, LTC Paul Yingling assigns blame for the failure of the military in the Vietnam War and the dire and deteriorating situation in Iraq at the beginning of 2007, placing it on America’s generals, then and now. Though fearless in its attempt, the essay presents a weak academic argument to back up this claim due to a string of fallacies, statements and arguments based on false or invalid inference. Most notable in his essay is “hasty generalization”, “missing the point”, and the “false dichotomy”. The initial fallacy that undermines the argument is that of “hasty generalization”. A “hasty generalization” is a broad sweeping statement placed on a group of people without a sufficient…

Context and values reside within any text, and are inevitable whether the text is composed reluctantly or purposely to communicate them. Richard III exerts an overwhelming insight into Elizabethan England context, and the values they upheld. A better understanding of context is evident through the values that derive and are produced by the context. Shakespeare emits a variety of thematic concerns and language techniques that reflect many contexts such as the social, cultural and historical contexts. Furthermore, he develops solid, well-constructed characters that not only contribute to the success of the play, but allows us to gain an understanding of the Elizabethan society.…

Explain the different forms of child abuse? Include Shaken Baby Syndrome in your response. The four different forms of child abuse are physical, emotional, sexual abuse, and neglect. Physical abuse is violence that is directed toward a child or an adolescent by a parent, adult, or guardian. Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS) is an even more severe form of physical abuse that can be very dangerous if not deadly. Shaken Baby Syndrome is when a baby or a small child is shaken in such a violent way that there is damage to their bones, organs, brain, or even enough damage to cause death. Emotional abuse is when a child feels worthless or rejected to the acts of another adult or guardian but is not physically harmed. Sexual abuse is when someone is sexually explicit towards a child, shows a child pornography, or if a person’s genitals are exposed to a child. Neglect is when a parent is neglectful to a child. This student’s analysis does a great job of analyzing the piece of poetry as a whole while at the same time taking time to discuss specific details. When first reading the poem, I did not know who Dan White, or Harvey Milk were, and the student’s analysis helped myself understand their importance affect on the LGBTQ+ community. It is important to identify the speakers own queer identity, as this helps highlight the shift in the poems sarcasm and serious tone. These shifts occur specifically when he uses figurative language, especially at the word play. The student does well to identify this word play throughout the poem. The sarcastic word play is used as an understatement to emphasize and be an example of the dismissal of the acts that have occurred. These acts are outrageous and awful, however, they’re affect on the LGBTQ+ community is overlooked and ignored. These examples of understatements can be found in lines 1 and 25. The synecdoche used to describe the people and couples as “levis and leather jackets” is meant to describe the LGBT+…
