Pitch: Molly Bolt comes from a poor family. She possesses remarkable beauty and has accepted being a lesbian since early childhood. She is determined to focus, and not allow anyone to make her feel ashamed of her sexuality, place limits on her abilities as a woman, or discourage her from attending NYU to become a film maker.
Act 1:
Molly Bolt, a seven year old girl plays the doctor, who is caring for Milton, as her cousin, Leroy plays her assistant. Cheryl, Milton’s sister tells Molly that Leroy must play the doctors, because only boys can be doctors. Molly feels different about the role of women and refuses to give up her position as the doctor in their role play. An argument erupts, Molly pushes Cheryl to the ground, and is about to slug Milton, who comes to his sister’s defense, when Ethel Spiegelglass sees Molly attacking her children, she calls Molly …show more content…
She says goodbye to her mother, Carrie, who warns her about her views concerning the place of women and not getting pregnant while at college. Molly’s cousin Leroy gives her a ride to the Greyhound Bus Station. She arrives at the college and meets her new roommate, Faye, who loves alcohol, and makes racist comment, and another young woman Lizabeth, who is black and ignored by the other students.
Faye takes Molly to a gay bar, where they dance and spend time with another gay couple. Molly later admits that she has slept with women. Molly is voted campus council representative, a position another student, Doreatha wanted. Doreatha does not like Molly and Faye and they do not like her. Molly, using her talent for filming and with the help of Faye takes pictures of Doreatha giving oral sex to her boyfriend, and exposes Doreatha, by releasing the pictures on campus during a pep
