Mom Culture: The Rise Of Minions
A creation intended to bring joy and laughter to children across the world minions have turned into one of the greatest memes there is. Aside from being a meme minions have grown to be much more. They have become a fundamental element or building block of society or in other words have become a cultural trait. While cultural traits may assume many forms Minions can fall under any number of them. Taking over the image of many products during Universals advertising push Minions have become the faces of many products such as Twinkies and Amazon; brands that otherwise have no mascot. Amazon and Twinkies are not the only material artifact that Minions have become related to. The Mona Lisa has become closely associated with the Minions through the …show more content…
Since then the Minions have gained their own following on popular social media platforms like Tumblr, DeviantArt, Reddit, and Facebook. The later of the four has been dominated by Moms since 2013 causing unintentionally hilarious results. Facebook mom culture began in 2014 was swift to adapt to the Minion meme fad, quickly becoming their biggest fans. The memes created by Facebook mom culture consist of occasionally witty slogans accompanied by Minions. While the seventh graders of the internet are embarrassed by their Minion meme sharing mothers Tumblr has embraced the minion-loving Facebook mom labeling them as a direct descendant of the Facebook wine mom, another Tumblr trope. Inspired by the Minion memes and Facebook mom culture a phenomena known as Minion hate has occurred. While Minion memes refers to the images featuring minions and text Minion hate refers to the act of hating Minion memes. These phenomena create a stereotype surrounding the Minion meme as something being worth of ridicule. The subreddit /r/MinionHate was created on June 5th, 2015 as a place where users could post minions intruding in brands as well as social media while having a negative reaction towards them.
