The monarch butterfly also known as Danaus plexippus or the milkweed since its larvae eat milkweed plants. It is the butterfly that is the most famous. Its black, orange, and white wings make it easily recognizable. People often think that they are seeing a monarch when they could actually be seeing a viceroy.
