Course Objectives
Money and Capital Markets is an overview of the broad structure of the money markets
(short term) and capital markets (long term financing), covering both corporate and government financing. It examines these markets from the perspective of an issuer’s financial manager – what are the major funding vehicle alternatives that are available, and what is the market structure and pricing mechanism for each of these alternatives?

Basic Calculations in Excel
Bond Mathematics – Price and Yield calculations

Weekly Preparation / Class Participation
Students should read all assigned readings before each class, and be prepared to discuss each assigned case. A set of “learning objectives” will be provided for each reading. The best way to read the text chapter or HBS note is with the list of learning objectives at hand, looking to identify each of the learning objectives within the text material. At the end of each textbook chapter is a summary, a list of key terms, and questions or problems for review. Specific questions for discussion may be posted on the class site in the
Camino system in advance of each week’s session. All of this material should be reviewed prior to class.
Each Tuesday after the first week there will be a discussion of two articles taken from the prior week’s newspaper. Each week some students will be assigned to teams to select and
