A lot of times people think of money as a good thing, but really it corrupts. Jonathan Swift had said“A wise person should have money in their head, but not in their heart.” When people gain a lot of wealth most of the time the start to look down on people but in the end it doesn't matter because we all end up the same. Dead. “We all gonna die, we bleed from similar veins.” Tupac Shakur explains this perfectly, no matter who we are we’re going to die because we are the same, human beings. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald shows how wealth creates social class which can ruin relationships.…
Black slavery in the South created a bond among white Southerners and cast them in a common mold. Slavery was also the source of the South 's large agricultural wealth, which led to white people controlling a large black minority. Slavery also caused white Southerners to realize what might happen to them should they not protect their own personal liberties, which ironically included the liberty to enslave African Americans. Because slavery was so embedded in Southern life and customs, white leadership reacted to attacks on slavery after 1830 with an ever more defiant defense of the institution, which reinforced a growing sense among white Southerners that their values eventually divided them from their fellow citizens in the Union. The South of 1860 was uniformly committed to a single cash crop, cotton. During its reign, however, regional differences emerged between the Lower South, where the linkage between cotton and slavery as strong, and the Upper South, where slavery was relatively less important and the economy more diversified. Plantations were the leading economic institution in the Lower South. Planters were the most prestigious social group, and, though less than five percent of white families were in the planter class; they controlled more than forty percent of the slaves, cotton, and total agricultural wealth. Most had inherited or married into their wealth, but they could stay at the top of the South 's class structure only by continuing to profit from slave labor. Planters had the best land. The ownership of twenty or more slaves enabled planters to use a gang system to do both routine and specialized agricultural work, and also permitted a regimented pace of work that would have been impossible to impose in free agricultural workers. Teams of field hands were supervised by white overseers and black drivers, slaves selected for their management skills and agricultural knowledge.…
In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald makes the point that money is the root of all evil. For example, when Myrtle got ran over by Gatsby’s car (137), supposedly since Gatsby’s car is really fancy, Myrtle was ran over by “wealth,” which is what she wanted throughout the story. Everyone wants money in The Great Gatsby. They would do anything to get it, like…
Money is power, which people want for themselves. The desire for money is a never ending trip and most individuals will do anything for this control. When people come in to some money, they feel superior, more powerful and above the rest of the other people that have less .they start hanging in crowds with the same level of income, so they feel better. I had a friend who once talk all the time, play together and hangout. When she got older, her family came in to money big time. Now she doesn’t talk to me, and never does anything with me. A…

Although there will always be those who say money cannot buy happiness, money can lead to personal satisfaction, which in the end leads to happiness. Happiness can be created through the things that one owns, also by what they have compared to others around them. As said in the article, “The Happiness of Pursuit,” one helps obtain happiness because “money can boost happiness if it allows people to obtain more of the things they need and desire” (qtd. in Kluger). This is proven through the fact that when people get what they want, or get more of the things they enjoy, then they become happy, and money can be used to get those things. It can also be argued that based on the amount of money one makes, their happiness can either be increased or decreased. In an article from the Time Magazine, according to Belinda Luscombe, “the more [people make], the more they felt their life was going well.” If it is true that the more money people make, and the better they feel pertaining to how their life is going, then they will definitely be happier depending on their monetary wealth. With the constant arguing back and forth of people as to whether money makes people happy, sad, or has no affect, it is apparent that money does affect people’s lives. Money can both help people get what they want, also help make their lives feel as if they are going well, which are both…
When money is a factor of any situation, it can become the root of all evil and lead to the destruction of many. People will go to great measures to become rich regardless of anyone affected along the way. This is why many people turn a good thing like having a lot of money turn into a horrible thing like being worst off than before their wealth. After winning the lottery for example, the ruinous trait of greed is commonly seen in the character of a lottery winner. They become selfish and excessive with the desire of having and buying more with their winnings than they have or necessary. Once the winner is publically established, strangers know who the winner is and begin to hassle them for their money. Not only is the greed of strangers a winner’s worry, even their own family and friends feel that they deserve some of their money. As a result, money causes the impulsive desire of the need to greed and the spending of more than people are worth resulting in their bankruptcy.…

We live in a world where money is needed for everything we do, so we end up becoming obsessed. At first, it’s a necessity, but then we want more. A person wants to keep making money because they are greedy. As long as they are greedy, they will always crave for more than what they need. In general, money is powerful, but at the same time you can’t let it control your life. In the Queen of Versailles, David Siegel is trying to build the dream house. In order to do that, he has to borrow money from the bank. As he proceeds to build the mansion, the bank stops giving him money. His idiotic wife doesn’t know what’s going on, and she goes on an endless shopping spree. In the end, the man ends up losing the house, and is forced to sell it. Obtaining money can either make you live a life of greed and misery, or a positive life.…
