Since smallpox disease was eradicated many human pox viruses have emerged .Monkeypox received most of the attention. Monkeypox is an infection zoonotic disease caused by the Monkeypox virus which it is a member of the family 'Poxviridiea. The disease is located mostly in Central and West Africa. The reason of why is the disease named as "Monkeypox" is because scientists discovered it first in a type of monkey in a laboratory in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1958. The scientists found that the clinical symptoms of Monkeypox are similar to Smallpox, but the difference between symptoms of smallpox and Monkeypox is that Monkeypox causes lymph nodes to swell while smallpox does not. In 1970, two years after the last cases of smallpox occurrence the disease was first discovered by a man in Zaire. There is no specific treatment for the virus. However, the smallpox vaccination can do 85% success to prevent Monkeypox. In addition, there are several processes that are taken to prevent infection with Monkeypox virus. For example, the people should avoid being in direct contact with the infected animals like rats, mice and squirrels or infected people. Also, try not to touch the objects and surfaces that may be infected by this virus. Isolate the people who are living with the virus from those who are in good health to curb the spread of the disease. In summary, this research has explained the epidemiological characteristics, treatment and prevention of a zoonotic disease called Monkeypox in Central and West Africa. To limit the speared of Monkeypox, and the Health authority should not stop providing the vaccines to the population in Africa.
