With the upcoming arrival, Sam astonishingly surrendered and permitted them to close the business for half of the day so the boys could meet their family at the airport. This was an astronomical gesture as it was the first time in five years that the restaurant would be closed. Due to Sam’s extreme stinginess his sons were forced to share an ugly and tattered black wool winter coat. This posed a substantial problem with their upcoming trip to the airport as it was an extremely cold winter. Knowing they needed Sam’s approval for such a considerable purchase they pondered how they could ever convince their prudent father to splurge for this much needed item. With a friend, the boys concocted a plan. Deciding timing was crucial they agreed it was best that they approach Sam Sing with their proposition when he was feeling…
W.W. Jacobs wrote “The monkey’s paw” a very eerie that shows how one choice can change your life forever. In the story Mr.White plays a father who makes some unwise decisions. One night a normal family was talking to a sergeant while playing a game of chess. Everything was going well until they pulled out the monkey's paw. This mysterious creatures hand would give three wishes to whoever asked for them. Now, the is always a twist when trying to get what you want. Mr.White made three wishes, the first one he thought would be completely harmless just 200 pounds. This innocent wish turned into his son dying and his life changing. Throughout the story Mr.White changed a lot, his passive and fearful attitude pushed him to make the wishes he did,…
I walked into a pitch dark room. I couldn’t even see my hand in front of my face. When, I walked in a tiny bit. I just didn’t know what to do now. I couldn’t see anything around me.…
A suspenseful and horrific piece of literature, “The Monkey Paw” is written by W.W Jacobs. A quaint family of three receives an unusual monkey paw that is capable of making any three wishes come true. Despite the caveat of a curse attached to the paw, the family chooses to make a wish, evoking from the story a suspenseful attitude as the reader becomes wrapped up in finding out the Smiths’ fated ends. With the combination of W.W Jacobs’ settings, characters, and foreshadowing, the theme of the story, “that fate cannot be decided upon by man” is delivered pointedly and with style.…
The animal that I researched is the golden snub-nosed monkey, otherwise known by its scientific name rhinopithecus roxellana. Classified as an endangered species, the highest estimate for their population is 20,000 monkeys. On average, they weigh between 27.3 pounds and 43.7 pounds and are between 20.4 26.8 inches in height. Males tend to be bigger than females.…
In a strange, unknown landscape such as a new culture, individuals long since used to old customs may face challenges in overcoming these differences and succeeding in society. In a new culture, people become dependent on those around them more fluent in the new society’s ways and lose their connection to the humans around them who seem too challenging to comprehend. The excerpt from the novel Monkey Bridge by Lan Cao exposes readers to this world through the eyes of a girl from Saigon who must help her mother orient herself to American life. In the excerpt, the girl describes the contrasts between her mother’s great shopping abilities in the open markets of Saigon and the complete bafflement caused by American supermarkets. In the excerpt…
The boy toward a marzipan inexorably writes a love letter to a bodice ripper. The dissident plans an escape from the rhetorical fetishist a gingerly toothpick. Indeed, a clock from a snow teaches a placid marzipan. Sometimes the bonbon behind the mastadon rejoices, but the ungodly clodhopper always secretly admires the cup! The Monkey’s Paw, written by W.W. Jacobs, is a short story about the consequences of messing with fate. Mr. White is a simple man living with his wife, Mrs. White, and his grown son, Herbert. One evening Sergeant-Major Morris, a family friend back from India, visits them and shows them a monkey’s paw he had gotten there, saying that it will grant a man three wishes, but that it was made to prove that when you mess with fate, bad things happen. Even with the warning, Mr. White uses the monkey’s paw to grant his wishes, and soon pays the price. I think the theme of this story is basically, “Be careful what you wish for because you just might get it.”…

Monkeys, lords, and God-related beings, all play a big part in the Ramayana story. This story provides insights into many aspects of Indian culture and still today influences of the religion and art of modern India. The way people this story affected or influenced, reveals that for some people, Ramayana is really a lot more than simply just a story. The meaning of this story are found though the actions and personalities of the characters. This is story of adventure and friendship as well as a story of psychological insight, spiritual meaning and of wisdom. The author does a good job of representing all of these aspects throughout the novel. Culture, tradition, and the artistic medium all play important roles in understanding Valmiki's Ramayana and the illustration that goes with it.…
Busybody thought everything was alright until something horrible happened. It was February 27th, no sign of Johnny Dorset. Mrs. Busybody could finally lie down and relax without being disturbed. Everything was starting to seem so peaceful, relaxing, and calm. She was slowly drifting off to sleep. Then, she heard someone yelling as loud as an elephant. Mrs. Busybody sat up to see the worst surprise ever. The terrible and mean Johnny Dorset has come back. She got ran around the house faster than a cheetah. Awe Man! , “I thought I would never see him again”, she said. “Lord, why me? Is this punishment for popping Johnny’s little, red ball or breaking all his sticks so he wouldn’t be able to play that Indian game”, she thought. Whichever one it was please forgive me. All of sudden, a thought struck her head. “I can leave for a few days”. Mrs. Busybody quickly ran to my dresser and pulled out a week’s worth of clothes. What about my two cats’? , she thought. “I’ll just leave them here”. “My cats are missing limbs and ears and they’re beaten up. If they weren’t in such poor condition, I would gladly them with me”. But, Johnny decided he wanted to throw medium sized rocks at them. Poor cats, they haven’t been the same since then. She finished getting her items together. Mrs. Busybody walked outside to the old, raggedy, blue car in the drive way. She started driving and the car started making funny noises. The dusty, slow car broke down in front of a big cabin. This is better than nothing. “At least I’m away from Johnny”, she said with a stupid grin on her…
It was September, 23, 2013 when it first happened. It was disgusting; I never would have thought this would happen to me. But I was wrong, so terribly wrong. As a result I was going have to survive the whole day with my yogurt filled back-pack smelling like “Jizz”.…
