Monologue Analysis

Antonio – I don’t know why I am so sad. I am tired of it and you are saying you are tired of it too. I really have no clue of how I got so depressed. If I have no answer to why I am so depressed then, I don’t understand my self well.
Salarino – You are worried about your ships. Your mind is getting tossed in the ocean due to the thought of this thought. But don’t worry they are fine. They are very grand and majestic just like beauty pageants. They are so big that the small boats respect them. The ships pass the small boats easily.
Salanio – Yes, Believe me I had many risky ventures too. I would be continuously thinking about my ships my thoughts are abroad. I would be plucking grass and then tossing them in the air to know in which direction
Then let’s just say you’re sad, because you’re not in a good mood. You know, it would be just as easy for you to laugh and dance and play and say you’re in a good mood. You could just say you’re not sad. Humans are so different. Antonio is just as strange ans two headed janus. Some people laugh even if they hear something not funny and some people are so grouchy that they don’t even smile even when somebody cracks a hysterically funny joke or do funny actions.
Salanio – Here come your cousin Bassanio, along with Gratiano and Lorenzo. I will see you later. You have better company, I will leave them here to talk to you.
Salarino – I would’ve stayed till I made you happy, if your close friends hadn’t come.
Antonio – You both are very dear to me. But I understand. You need to leave to take care of your own business.
Salarino – Good morning, Gentlemen.
Bassanio – friends, when shall we have fun together ? Just tell me. We never see you anymore. Can’t we meet regularly ?
Salarino – Lets us know when we are hanging out. We will be available.
Lorenzo - Bassanio, we will say goodbye for now because you have found Antonio. But don’t forget we are meeting at dinner
You are taking things very seriously. People

Antonio – For me the world is just the world. Gratiano – a stage where every single person has a part to play. I play a sad one.
Gratiano – Then I will play the role of a happy fool and get wrinkles when I laugh. I’d rather overfill my liver with wine than starve my heart by denying myself fun. Why should any person sit still like a old grandfather or statue ? Why should he sleep when he is awake ? You know what Antonio I am telling you all this because I love you and I care about you. There are men who always look serious. They never show any expression. It is just like stagnant ponds with a thick layer of dirt on top. They are very silent and serious. They think that they are wise and respectable. Also, when they speak everybody should stop talking and even the dogs should stop barking. I know a lot of men like that. Antonio the only reason they are considered wise is because they never say a word. If they ever opened their mouth then I am sure people will recognize how foolish they are. I will talk to you more about this some other day. In the meantime cheer up. Don’t be so gloomy. Let’s go Lorenzo, goodbye for now. I will finish my lecture after
