Although they get paid, most of the social workers only want to help other without waiting for nothing in exchange. They experience many problems, both with the people they work with and with themselves. According to the article within the Houston Chronicle “Problems Faced by Social Workers” by Clayton Browne, social work “can certainly offer emotional rewards, but social workers often report low job satisfaction and suffer a high burnout rate”(Browne).The satisfaction of completing a case and knowing that you have helped someone is the only and most important profit that a social worker gets. They are trying to prevent people from having the same lifestyles as they did. Many people who are now social workers had a harsh childhood and all they want to do is help.They went through physical and mentally abuse and others were abandoned by their parents. According to The New Social Worker, “Why I Want to be a Social Worker” by D'atra Franklin says “I want to be a social worker because I have a passion and need to help people. My passion stems from years of abuse and neglect”(Franklin).Her struggles led her to want to help people with similar problems. If a person starts doing this job because they went through something similar then they are not going to worry about the profit but about the satisfaction of helping others. Some examples can be school or family social workers. In school we have a lot of people that are always willing to help us and hear about our problems. According to an article from the Chicago Tribune titled “Social work can be difficult, but incredibly rewarding”, it states, social workers help “improve the social and psychological functioning of children and their families and to maximize the family well being and academic functioning of children” (“Social Workers have…”).
