NAME OF ACTIVITY:- ACTIVITIES OF EVERY DAY LIVING – Use of a garlic press.

Providing opportunity to further develop problem solving and observation skills Increasing independence
Supporting the need for order with systematic use.
Strengthening hand and wrist for later writing.

Anticipated Duration:- 5 minutes Actual duration:- 3 minutes (+20 min observation)
Setting:- Home Environment
Pre-requisites:- understanding of the cycle of activity
Know where to find cleaning materials
Know how to clean up a spill with a cloth (or method appropriate to the setting)
Can use tongs independently
Can pour water from beaker to beaker independently
Advanced preparation for the lesson:- prepare the tray and materials (if the materials are already a part of the nursery, ensure that these are clean and ready for use. Ensure that the particular garlic press you choose is safe for the child to use):-
Materials:-
Arrange 3 small bowls (± 10 cm diameter) and a garlic press on an appropriate tray.
Place 8 sponge cubes (±2 cm) in the left hand bowl.
Find an appropriate location in the ‘Activities of Everyday Living’ area of the environment.
Familiarise yourself with the activity and steps involved.
Consider the child you will be presenting this activity to (make necessary modifications if required.)
