The Month of the Century
Purpose: To show how people are now and how they acted before during the month of Ramadan
Its different every year. The time for Ramadan goes back two weeks from the last year. So that way, over time, fasting can be easy and hard. The real question is though, how hard is it to fast from food and water for 11-18 hours depending on the season? Not that hard, so why is it so important? It is said that one good deed is multiplied by 99. So why do so many people waste their time? The prophet Muhammad would only sleep three hours on a regular day and on Ramadan, he would sleep even less. Imagine a time where there isn't any technology. Where people would wear short sleeves

Although there were events in the 1970s that showed Canada's identity, the 1972 Century Series demonstrated that Canada is a unified and independent country. First, the Century Series unveiled our identity as hockey players. As the international series did not tire the professional players participate, Canada never made an appearance. So, when Russia presented interest in a nice series against Canada, they agreed. Vladimir Lutchenko, one of the players on the team of the Soviet Union, said…

First and foremost, I would like to honour and pay tribute to Black Canadians in regards to Black Month History. Part of my speech in fact is about recognizing the diversity and multi-culturism that have enriched across Canada. Being amidst the visible minority is rewarding in and out of itself: making the country culturally diverse and more compassionate than it is today. However, being a minority group can be a struggle. The storming years of adolescence where we face challenges to our sense of self is unusually difficult, and it certainly not easy when you are of a different race, ethnic and faith. In addition to the negative image caused by the media portrayals of specific groups as criminals, oppressed, aggressive or physically unattractive,…

The book I read was Seven Days in May by Fletcher Knebel and Charles W. Bailey II. It is set in Cold War era America in the Pentagon. The tension between the public and the president are the main focus in this story. Most of the people this book talks about are in the military and work for the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of staff is presented as the antagonist in the book, whereas the protagonist is one of the people who works for him and catches word of a plan to stage a coup d’état. The Cold war plays a big part in this story because the planning of the coup was set off by the president wanting to sign a treaty with Russia to lay down their nuclear weapons.…

The important second prong of the M’Naghten rule says that the person must know right from wrong. Clark would have had to have known at the time of the incident that what he was doing was wrong in order for him to be guilty of intent to murder. (Gibeaut, 2006, Vol. 92)…

    1. “An analysis of the popular culture of the United States from 1865 to 1900 reveals deep class, gender, and ethnic or racial divisions.” Assess the validity of this statement. I believe that this statement is very accurate given the social conditions of American society around the turn of the 20th century. Following the end of the Civil War and Reconstruction, Americans struggled to regain a sense of normality and divisions between different groups of people highlighted the flaws within society. Racial and ethnic divisions were perhaps the most prominent form of social divisions during this time period as large numbers of ex-slaves struggled to integrate into society and millions of immigrants flowed into the country.…

Woodson in 1926. Back then, it was called Negro History Week and was celebrated the second week of February. Martin Luther King was the son of a pastor and grew up in a religious family during segregation times. He attended segregated public schools in Georgia and graduated from high school at the age of fifteen. He also studied at Crozer Theological Seminary, the same place where he was elected president of a predominantly white senior class. Later on Martin Luther King pursued to become a pastor of Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Alabama. From there he became involved in a bus boycott and other segregation uproars, but he did with non-violence and civil disobedience in which he spoke. In honor of Black History Month, I’ve selected Langston Hughes as the figure I would write about, because through his poetry; Hughes displayed to America, the world through the eyes of African Americans living in Harlem, in the rough 1920s. The poet, lyricist, author, playwright, and social activist, was born on February 1, 1902, in Joplin Missouri, to James Hughes and Carrie Langston. Unfortunately, the couple divorced shortly after his birth, leaving Hughes to be raised mainly by his grandmother. When she passed away, Hughes was sent to live with his mother. In search of better jobs, Hughes’ mother would often move, and the two moved to several cities before eventually settling in Cleveland, Ohio.…

African-Americans have gone through many hardships and trials in America. However, they didn’t let our rudeness or unfairness stop them from helping, changing, or entertaining the U.S. In 1926 Dr. Carver G Woodson created Negro History Week to honor African Americans who contributed to the United States in some way, shape, or form. It was a week of giving thanks to those who helped shape America. This week honored inventors, congressmen, doctors, lawyers, even entertainers. Woodson picked the second week of February to celebrate these accomplishments because it fell near the birthdays of two very important people who helped shape African-American history. These people were former President Abraham Lincoln and former slave Frederick Douglass.…

I have lots of positive energy. Anyone who knows me says I constantly have positive energy. I always try to see the bright side, and when a friend of mine is sad I try to cheer them up. For example, this year everyone had negative energy going into Decade Day and said we had no chance of winning. I constantly told people to have faith in us, and if we were enthusiastic enough we could win. At first, no one believed me, then after I persistently told people to be positive, people came around. By Decade Day everyone had positive energy rushing through their veins, and sure enough we won Decade Day. I am a positive person, and it rubs off on others.…

The civil rights movement was a time in America in which Blacks and other minorities started getting more independence and more equal rights. This movement required several courageous leaders and many life changing events occurred in order for America to become the integrated nation that it is today. A number of protests and boycotts took place but they were usually non-violent, (which the minorities discovered that the non-violent approach worked the best.) Throughout this period in time schools, public places and other everyday places slowly but surely became integrated.…

Throughout my years of growing up I have learned very little about the history of Black history month. My understanding way it was to celebrate the achievements of African dissent Americans. Until I have looked into the history of African Americans due to the seemingly going backwards in social culture in America. And in looking back in history I have found out that African Americans had an impact on the United States and helped shape what this country is today. Black history month is a very important month to learn and help teach the accomplishments of African Americans, and learning the transformation of Negro history week and how it had transformed to Black history month would be a good start.…
