Section A: Factual questions
Question 1
Woolfolk (2013:12) states that “educational psychology is a distinct discipline with its own theories, research methods, problems, and techniques”. It focuses on the learning and teaching processes and according to Woolfolk (2013:13-14) it is not based on common sense alone. Educational psychology also provides teachers with information about how students learn and what stimulates them to learn.
Educational psychology is an important discipline which can help improve decision making in the classroom, by giving teachers the knowledge to understand child development. This is imperative when trying to establish effective teaching methods and techniques.
Question 2
IQ tests or intelligence quotient tests are designed to measure intelligence. There are two main types of IQ tests namely, individual tests and group tests. Individual IQ tests, according to Woolfolk (2013:125), require one on one consultation with the student, by a trained psychologist. Woolfolk states that “most questions in an individual IQ test are asked orally and do not require reading or writing.” Group IQ tests, as the name suggests, are administered to groups of students.
Individual IQ tests are more likely to give an accurate result of intelligence when compared to group tests (Woolfolk 2013:126). There are many factors as to why a
