Leadership and Management are two terms that are often used interchangeably, or else used in very close relation with each other. But leadership is something that is difficult to define, because it is a word that can be defined in a number of different ways. Broadly speaking, however, leadership refers to the ability of an individual to influence a group of subordinate individuals to behave according to a certain manner, and the methods used to motivate those individuals to work together in order to attain a particular goal (Hughes, Ginnett, & Curphy, 2000, p.4). Sky Barragan, daughter of a good friend of mine is the child I observed for this written evaluation. Sky is four years old with a birthday quickly approaching this upcoming July. The observation took place at a local park in Pasadena that Sky frequents quite regularly for play time. We arrived at the park at approximately nine fifty in the morning and left the park at ten thirty. The park is about five acres and located in a quiet neighborhood of Pasadena, CA. It has a playground, basketball courts, handball courts, and plenty of open grass and trees which make for a calm and peaceful setting. The park was fairly empty with a few adults engaging in morning fitness activities, and the playground was empty. The temperature outside was about ninety…

Life is short – so why participate in an activity if we don’t enjoy it, and if we do participate, why not do so with all of our energy? Therefore, having an understanding of leadership and acknowledging its significance is vital within our day-to-day lives. Leadership can be described by many, “as the process by which a leader imaginatively directs, guides and influences the work of others in choosing and attaining specified goals by mediating between the individuals and the organization in such a manner, that both will obtain maximum satisfaction.”1…
