Morton Helig Sesorama Analysis
In the year of 1957, Morton Helig started to build a machine, called the Sensorama, which designed to allow the audience to have a cinematic experience, in terms of taking in some of their senses, such as sound, touch and sight, and also projected a form of a stereoscopic 3-D environment to the front and the sides of their heads. Unfortunately, this machine had never sold commercially as it was extremely expensive to produce films because it has to be involved with the camera man to obtain three cameras, strapped to him at all times, which is burdensome. It was cleared that these element were obviously involved in augmented reality (AR) with the devices in position between the user and the environment and the factor that the environment, the

Like many other 20 year old men in 1944, Helmut Siitam was a soldier. On the eve of D Day, June 6, 1944, when the Allies landed on the beaches of Normandy, the young private in the Estonian Army was enjoying a three week furlough at his parents' home in the Baltic republic's capital of Tallin. During his brief respite from the horrors of war, Helmut enjoyed the time with his family. He said goodbye to his parents for the last time and bid farewell to Alfred his younger brother, that he would not see again for 46 years later, when in June 1990, Alfred and his family visited the Siithams in Meaford.…

Invention of the year 2009 “The Sixth Sense technology” is a invention to bridge the gap between intangible digital information and digital world. It is new innovative technology developed by Pranav Mistry of MIT. Sixth sense uses the internet into a sixth human sense. Sixth sense is a wearable gestural interface that augments the physical world around us with digital information and helps to interact with information with natural hand gestures. The Sixth Sense prototype is comprised of pocket projector, a mirror, camera, mobile wearable device. Both the projector and the camera are connected to the mobile computing device in the user’s pocket. The projector projects visual information enabling surfaces, walls and physical objects around us to be used as interfaces; while the camera recognizes and tracks user's hand gestures and physical objects using computer-vision based techniques. The software program processes the video stream data captured by the camera and tracks the locations of the colored markers (visual tracking fiducials) at the tip of the user’s fingers using simple computer-vision techniques.…

Companies like Google are straying away from the once popular Virtual Reality, in favor of what they are calling “Augmented Reality”, or AR. According to Merriam-Webster, AR is “an enhanced version of reality created by the use of technology to overlay digital information on an image of something being viewed through a device (as a smartphone camera); also: the technology used to create augmented reality.” (Merriam-Webster, n.d.) In order to “augment” our realities, these technologies are recording, storing, altering, and displaying information in real time. The information they use can be anything, but with products like Google Glass, wearable technology can now modify what and how we see objects, people, or data, in real time.…

    Martin Seligman Analysis

It is genuinely fascinating how prosperous individuals approach problems. Where others see impenetrable obstacles, they see problems to embrace and barriers to overcome. Their confidence in the face of hardship is steered by the ability to let go of the negative attitude that holds most individuals back. A research done by Martin Seligman at the University of Pennsylvania shows that success in life is driven by one key element, whether you have the belief that your failures are produced by your personal deficits beyond your control or that they are mistakes you can fix with effort. Success is not the only thing determined by your way of thinking. Seligman has found much greater rates of depression in people who attribute their failures to personal deficits. Positive thinking individuals fare better because they treat failure as a learning experience. They also believe they can do great in the future. Retaining the success mindset is not simple. There are things that specifically shatter it. These problems drag people down because they appear to be obstacles that cannot be overcome. However, this is not so for the successful ones as these problems never hold them back;…

Augmented reality also involves a a foreign device in front of the eyes but does it in a much different way. The device is much less obtrusive and much more portable then a typical virtual reality machine. This is because instead of taking your reality and putting it to the side and creating all all new one augmented reality fuses the virtual and real aspects together. While virtual reality puts you in a completely different world, augmented reality amplifies and goes off of the world that already exists to the human eye. For example a product known as Google glass is basically just an ordinary set of glasses with a small screen attached to one of the lenses. It is by no means undetectable, but is a substantial difference from a huge headset that covers one third of your face in addition to wearing headphones as is needed for virtual reality…

    Sound Design

To truly understand the marriage of sound to motion pictures, one must return to the late 1800s, when The Edison Company under Thomas Edison experimented with the idea. In 1894, under the direction of W. K. L. Dickson, Edison made a short twenty-five second film known today as The Dickson Experimental Sound Film. The film depicts a man playing a violin before a phonograph horn as two men dance about it. The idea of filming a movie and at the same time recording the soundtrack into a phonographic horn on the movie screen seems to primitive today. However, it set a precedent for film with audio. It was blended with the idea of synchronization; if the video film and audio record could be played back on separate machines together then one would be able to have a “talking film”. This gave Edison the incentive to expand on the invention of the Kinetophone, which was a Kinetoscope with an integrated phonograph. One could then look into the Kinetoscope and simultaneously watch a motion picture while listening to the accompanying phonograph with a simple pair of headphones. The picture and sound were synced together by connecting the two with a leather belt. The invention drew vast attention; in spite of this success, Dickson left The Edison Company, which ended any further work on the Kinetophone. Eighteen years later a…

Neil Harbisson says that Technology will be increasing its integration into our body to extend our abilities, knowledge and perceptions of reality. Harbisson suffers from a visual impairment called Achomatopsia, which is where he only sees in shades of grey. To aid this he wears his eyeborg, which is connected at the back of his head with an antennae attached so as to convert the colour waves into sound frequencies which then is used to perceive the different colours of the world.…

The simplest VR systems use only a monitor to present the scene to the user. However, the “window onto a world” paradigm can be enhanced by adding a stereo view by use of LCD shutter glasses. LCD shutter glasses support a three-dimensional view using sequential stereo: with high frequency they close and open eye views in turn, when the proper images are presented on the monitor. An alternative solution uses a projection screen instead of a CRT monitor. In this case polarization of light is possible and cheap polarization glasses can be used to extract proper images for each of the eyes. A head movement tracking can be added to support the user with motion parallax depth cue and increase the realism of the presented images.…
