Ways That Would Motivate High School Students
In today’s world the average hHigh sSchool student is faced with many challenges in finding ways to keep them motivated to complete their classes successfully. My position regarding the most effective way that I believe will motivate students is, what motivation is and the part it plays when it comes to students. From our assignment reading, “Cyberschools” by (Clifford Stoll, 1950). I will give evidence of why I feel this is a great way to motivate our students to complete their class work, and also have a since of accomplishment and pride. First of all, to be motivated is to be moved into …show more content…
action, or to decide on a change in action, according to the philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer (1841/1960). He was one of the first to speculate on the relationship between motivation and behavior. Action or behavior does not occur spontaneously but is induced by either internal motives or environmental incentives. According to Atkinson (1958/1983) and McClelland (1987), a motive is a person’s internal disposition to be concerned with and approach positive incentives and avoid negative incentives. An incentive is the anticipated reward or aversive event available in the environment. A student may be motivated to obtain summer employment to pay tuition, to earn a university degree, and to eventually become a practicing psychologist, but being motivated is not the sole factor for these events to be realized. The student must also know how to accomplish these goals and be capable of doing so. Cognitive knowledge is important because it enables the individual to evaluate incentives, understand how to attain them, and assess the chances of success. Competence means being capable of performing the behavior necessary to achieve a desired end. Thus, a person may fail to accomplish a task because she did not know how, was not able, or was not motivated to do so. Furthermore, the reason I choose the Cyberschools and programs like it as good ways to motivate hHigh sSchool sStudents, is because they create a better learning environment and provide a better education to prepare students to be successful later in life.
Students will interact with information infrastructures and data processors. Students will be enriched, empowered, and enabled by the digital classroom; immersed in an optimal learning environment. Cyberschools will create a better learning environment and provide a better education to prepare students to be successful later in life. When doing my research, I found that there are many other schools that practice the same concept as the Cyberschool. At a time when advanced degrees are preferred or required in most fields, Bayside Health Sciences Academy’s Ccoordinator Bonnie Alder says her school 's program motivates students with visions of becoming medical professionals. The 18 participants, however, are anything but routine. The sophomores, juniors and seniors, some as young as 16, attend Bayside High School Health Sciences Academy, a magnet program in Virginia Beach that prepares students for careers in health care. Another program that motivates high school students is the Upward Bound program. The Upward Bound program provides skills and motivation to help students succeed in High School. They help students with academic instruction in courses including mathematics, laboratory sciences, composition, literature and foreign languages. One university that participates in the Upward Bound program is the College of St. Benedicasi. John 's University in St. Joseph, Minnesota. Jennifer Whitehead is the director. "Our goal is to get students successfully through high school and enrolled in college," said Whitehead. "We want to provide them with the tools while they are in our program to then be able to move on to college and be successful." (Elliott, Elizabeth A, Momentum42.4,(Nov/Dec 2011):
86,88-89.) In conclusion…I believe that cyberschools, and others programs like the examples I provided, can create a better learning environment for the students of today, and future years. The more evolved technology becomes, the more efficient education will become. These schools and programs are not easy and takes dedication and focus. When high school students complete these types of programs, they have a since of great accomplishment and pride about the work they have done.

Marie,
Your title page is almost correct. Your reference page is correct. You have some errors in citing in the body of the paper. You also have a very high originality report from Turnitin.
