Obviously, students always assume that motivation comes from getting good grades, but there more then just that. Many students find success by not visualizing on the success. skips the effect that takes into achieving there goals. Instead of visualizing on the success one should visualize on the steps that it will take for one to achieve that success. How long will it take? What type of work do I need to achieve to reach the next step? What type of strategies will one need to achieve those goals? In Drive by Daniel H. Pink he explains " rewards can perform a weird sort of behavioral alchemy: they can transform an interesting task into a drudge. They can turn play into work. And by diminishing intrinsic motivation, they can send performance, creativity and even upstanding behavior toppling like dominoes." (35) If one is better prepare for the challenges that are ahead of them instead visualizing on the success. It can help one motivate them to reach for ones goal.
Aside from not visualizing on the success a student can also find motivation by focusing on the journey, not the outcome.
If students are always thinking of the outcome either the success or the failure it can have dire effects on ones motivation. Students should not just focus on the success of the failure, instead one should focus what they learn on the way? Will they grow as a person? Will the challenge one is trying to conquer will it become easier? These type of question can boost the motivation of a student. In Drive by Daniel H. Pink he explains that " things like enjoyment of the work itself, genuine achievement, and personal growth. These internal desires were what really boosted both satisfaction and performance." (18) If students tends to focus more on the journey, personal growth, the development of the skills, one will tend to find more motivation in everything one does with success following right
