Motivation to Succeed
The definition of motivation is the driving force that causes the change from a desire to do thing into a will to do it. Motivation in this English class means to me having the will to write an essay at three in the morning because you put it off, better yet the motivation to graduate from college so that I will not be another statistic, or maybe it’s the motivation that I receive from my family that makes me want to strive harder and reach for the stars. Motivation could be defined in many different ways and could be seen from all different aspects, but it’s the driving force that causes the change from a desire to do things into a will to do things.
First of all the biggest reason that motivation will help me with my writing in this English class is because I was a last minute person for the most part I use to put things off until the last possible second. Just like when I was in high school I put my senior project off until the last minute and ended up failing it thank god that it was only the first semester and I got a second shot at it. That experience of failing the first time motivated me in many different ways it made me start doing things on time rather than wait. It made me realize not matter what happens the work has to be done. When the second semester rolled around I have everything lined up in order except that I had forgotten to write my essay, but that didn’t stop me it was two in the morning when I thought about it even though I was tired the motivation from me failing the class the first time kicked in and I got the essay done by the time I had to go to school and passed.
I also have motivation to pass this English class because then I would be a step closer to graduating and starting my professional life as a business man. For example in the professional field that I’m going in has a lot to do with writing and sending out memos now let’s say that I do not

Many people, when tasked with an essay, will groan and procrastinate. However, in my case, I rather have that assignment over anything else. I love to explain things, why I know them to be true, and how they work. Additionally, I enjoy journaling about my day to day experiences, fleshing out how I could better myself and handle problems differently. I see writing as a creative outlet — not a task to be checked off. Although I loved a good book when I was little, my recent love for literature springs from my experiences this past school year in AP Language and Composition. I took this class a year early in order to participate in AP Capstone. I enjoyed getting to explore and discover the true meaning behind the words they wrote.…

Although English and Writing was always a strong class for me in high school, I was nervous about starting it for Penn Foster. Not being one to admit my aging is affecting me, I have been out of school (and out of practice) for several years. I was strongly concerned that my once adequate skills were going to be sorely outdated or worse, completely gone. One thing I was sure of, from being raised in the age of Instant Messaging, my typing skills are still pretty strong. Not that, by having to look up again what a transient verb was, my typing skills were giving me much courage. Sigh……

I also feel that it is mandatory for me to stay motivated in order to succeed. Nothing worth having is easy to acquire ,and with that being said I know that bad habits such as failure to attend class, failure to take notes and properly pay attention during a lecture, and failure to complete all assignments to the best of my ability will not help me achieve my goal of becoming a better writer. Attending all lessons, taking good notes, asking questions, and having an open mind are all qualities that will help me succeed in being a better writer, and to do well in this class.…

Patrick Sullivan, an English teacher at Manchester Community College in Connecticut, author of “A Lifelong Aversion to Writing”: What If Writing Courses Emphasized Motivation” expresses the idea that teachers need to attain the interest of their students and teach them the criteria in ways that the students understand it, and feel the need to learn it, but he also believes that the students themselves need to develop Intrinsic motivation. “Students who are engaged and motivated learn almost effortlessly. Those who are not almost always struggle, resist, and often fail. Unmotivated students also often become disruptive and troublesome influences in our classrooms” (Sullivan, 120 ). Students who put forth the effort needed to succeed in a classroom tend to do better than those who don’t.…

I believe fear is also a motivation killer. The fear that you will die, or you will lose someone close to you. The fear of losing that great job, or doing badly on an interview. The fear of not having enough money to pay the bills, or the thought of getting sick with no one to take care of you. Yes, fear and anxiety are…

This happened in 2003. It was one of those weeks where the whole week was pretty hectic and things weren't going the way I wanted. I was feeling fed up and tired with the same old offshore project which had started five years back. That weekend I took a break from work and began watching the Singapore marathon on television. The marathon had a sea of participants that extended around half a kilometer behind the start line. Participants were from all over the world. It was meant for both men and women and there were separate prizes in both the categories.…
