Motorcycle Collision Essay
Motorcycle collisions are all too common in Bakersfield, and throughout California. In fact, the state’s Office of Traffic Safety reports that there were more than 450 motorcycle fatalities in 2013 alone. During that same year, many more people were injured in crashes involving motorcycles. Such accidents frequently have devastating results for motorcyclists due to the size difference between their bikes and other vehicles, and their lack of any external protection. Some motorcycle wrecks are unavoidable, however, there are things that motorcycle riders can do to help improve their safety when traveling on California’s roads and highways.

These types of protective apparel may be helpful in protecting people from cuts, abrasions and other serious injuries if they are knocked off of their vehicles due to impact with another automobile. In addition, it is advisable that motorcyclists, as well as their passengers, always wear helmets.

Hone riding skills through education

Before hitting the road on a motorcycle, it is suggested that people complete a rider education program. Such courses may teach motorcyclists how to handle and maneuver their vehicles. They may also point out hazards that riders should be aware of, and strategies to ensure their safety while on the road.

Ride defensively

Due to their small size, motorcycles can be difficult for other drivers to see. This is especially true for people who are operating larger vehicles, which may have sizeable blind spots. As such, motorcyclists should never assume that other motorist can see them. They should also avoid traveling in other drivers’ blind spots.

It is recommended that motorcycle riders always ride defensively, or with the intention of avoiding collisions. This includes always riding with their headlights on, signaling well before any change in direction and watching out for turning

Always wear a helmet when riding a bicycle. Although California state law only requires riders under 18 to wear a helmet, certain parts of California, including El Cerrito, require all bicyclists to wear helmets. Even if you are not required by law to wear a helmet, wearing one can greatly reduce your chances of suffering a serious injury if you are involved in a crash.…

Having painted bike lanes on streets and roads help both bicyclists and motorists stay in safer, more central positions in their respective lanes. Bicyclists are also less likely to ride on sidewalks when on street bike lanes exist. When they ride on sidewalks, U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission studies have shown that it increases their accident risk 25 times more. This occurs primarily because motorists pulling onto roadways tend to focus on street traffic. As a result, a driver may fail to see sidewalk bicyclists and collide with them when the cyclists cross a driveway where motorists are merging into roadway…

There are different precautions to prevent closed head injuries. When driving, I would wear seat belts in an motor vehicle as this will help in case of an accident. Again wearing helmets will help when cycling in all terrains. But for people with Turbans such as myself, I would recommend not going on hard trails for bikers. If you do want to go please put your hair down tie a bandana and wear a helmet. To prevent closed head injuries this might sound a little odd, I have done this before at a Punjabi Party. An elderly man got drunk and was walking to his car. I can see he was drunk because he kept falling down after a couple steps. I stopped him took him to his wife, and then his wife yelled at him and thanked me. I will personally go up to…

Not only is it annoying to come up on a random bicyclist but it is also extremely dangerous not only for the biker but also for a driver like myself who is very nervous about getting in an accident in general but if I hit I bicyclist I would be locked up so fast it would make my head spin. My point is if I see a bike on the road I am going to do my best to avoid it, and I could potentially hit oncoming traffic. I could then have to live the rest of my life with the burden of seriously injuring or killing someone because I was trying not to hit a bicycle.…

In any two vehicle collision, the smallest vehicle sustains the most damage. The occupants also have a higher injury and fatality risk. This means that the motorcyclist always loses in collisions with other types of vehicles. In addition, their two wheels make them less stable in poor road and weather conditions. Their lack of a protective cage, seat belts, and airbags mean that they rarely survive collisions unscathed.…

    Cars vs. Motorcycles

There are many people that believe that using a helmet while riding a motorcycle will not help in most crashes. There is no data that supports this it is only a theory. Statistics have no way to predict what would have happened in the same accident under the same conditions if the person would have had a helmet or not. There is no guaranty of safety even with wearing a helmet while riding a motorcycle. If you are concerned with safety and comfort than riding in a car is an excellent way to go. Cars have been evolving for thousands of years with safety, comfort and style in mind. Given the information above alone makes riding in a car better than riding a motorcycle because a car is safer, quieter, and more comfortable than a motorcycle. Statistics show that 84 of drivers drive a car rather than a motorcycle. There are many features in cars that make them safe. Some of these features would be that they are made of metal. The metal that the car is made of keeps individuals inside the vehicle safe from being hit directly in an accident. For instance, the Hummer is one the safest vehicles out there. It originated from the Hum-Vee which is used as a military vehicle. The Hummer frame is the strongest in the car industry. A car has seatbelts that also keep you safe. When the seatbelt is buckled, it holds a person into the seat so that in the event of an accident the person is kept safe and inside the car. A seatbelt has a three point safety-belt restraint system that focuses on the shoulders, hip and lap. This protects the bodys internal organs and controls the bodys forward motion during a crash. It also prevents cranial and cervical injuries by minimizing head and neck motion. For example, in Colorado of August 2013 there was a 7 year old boy that was killed in a crash off of highway 119. He was in the cargo area of a 1996 Ford Explorer and was partially ejected during the rollover accident due to him not wearing his seatbelt. Another feature that cars have to keep…
