Mount Yasur is an active volcano on Tana Island, Vanuatu with a height of 361 m above sea level, located on the coast near Sulphur Bay, that lies to the southeast of the taller mountain Tukosumera, which was active in the Plesistocene. It has a largely unvegetated pyroclastic cone with nearly a circular summit crater of 400 m in diameter. It is a stratovolcano caused by the eastward-moving Indo-Australian Plate being sub-ducted under the westward-moving Pacific plate. It has been erupting continuously for over 800 years, Mount Yasur can usually be approached safely. Its eruptions, which often occur several times an hour, are classified as Strombolian. the longitude and latitude of mt. yasur are 19.53° s, 169.442° e. Mount Yasur is a Cinder Cone, explosive volcano that in fact is placed along the Pacific Ring of Fire, and has been continuously erupting since 1774. However only 10 of these eruptions since Oct. 26 actually did some damage by effecting the weather or humans. When Yasur erupts often times what happens is Molten Rocks, Dust, Gas, Pyroclastic, Ash and most of all Lava shoots out. Mt Yasur was discovered by Captain James Cook, in 1774 he was out on his first European journey out to this island and apparently what attracted him was the firey glow of the explosion. Some interesting facts about Mt. Yasur is that it’s most active through late February and April during the wet season. A lot of rain means a higher groundwater level, possible allowing water to come into contact with hot rocks around the magma chamber. Three people have been killed over the years because they wandered to lower, unsafe areas. Mt Yasur has been called “the lighthouse of the pacific” because the more-or-less continuous Strombolian and volcanic activity since Cook’s first sighting. The…

Mount Kilauea is the most famous volcano in Hawaii. It resides in the southeast in Mauna Loa. This volcano has one of the biggest craters of all volcanoes, consisting of 3,646 feet deep. It has an 8 mile circumference and is encompassed entirely by an enormous “wall of volcanic rock 200 to 500 ft high” (Mount Kilauea). “Mount Kilauea is a low and flat shield volcano that rises only 1,247 meters above sea level. Till date, the Kilauea volcano is the most active and the most visited volcano in the world” (Oak, By Manali). Mount Kilauea is the youngest volcano in Hawaii. It has a lava level of 740 ft. under the rim. “Kilauea was formed under a hot spot under the crust. So were the other volcanoes on the Big Island such as Kohala, Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa, and Hualalai. There have been 34 eruptions since 1952 and 61 eruptions total” (Mount Kilauea). Hawaii has eight volcanoes and for the moment consists of 4,038 square miles. This will not be the case for long though, because thanks to Mount Kilauea, approximately forty-two acres are added each year from the eruptions. Mount Kilauea is only one of the five still-active volcanoes in Hawaii, but it is definitely the most famous. This is due to a variety of reasons but not the least of which is the belief that the Mount Kilauea Volcano is the resting place of the infamous fire goddess Pele.…

The peaks that neighbor Everest are Lotse (the 4th highest mountain in the world), Nuptse and Changste. There are two main routes that commercial expeditions use to reach the summit of Everest. The first route is called the South Col which is located in Nepal. Some of the challenges that climbers face with this route are dealing with the Khumbu icefall and traffic jams on the Lotse face and on the day when climbers try to reach the summit of Everest. The other route that expeditions use to reach the summit is the North East Ridge which is in China. Although there are fewer crowds on this route and expeditions can drive up to base camp, climbers have to deal with harsh winds and camps at higher elevations.…

An eruption begins when pressure on a magma chamber forces magma up through the conduit and out the volcano's vents. When the magma chamber has been completely filled, the pressure in the pipe will build up very high resulting in an explosion. When magma reaches earth's surface it is called lava. It may pour out in gentle streams called lava flows or erupt violently into the air. Rocks ripped loose from the inside of the volcano or torn apart by the gas may be shot into the air with the lava. These rocks are blown out of a volcano and are called volcanic bombs. Along with these bombs dust, ash, lava and cinder are released into the air. Volcanic activity is classified by how often a volcano erupts. A volcano may be active, dormant, or extinct. Active volcanoes erupt constantly. Dormant volcanoes are inactive, but not long enough to determine whether they will erupt again or not. Extinct volcanoes have been inactive since the beginning of recorded history.…

Sicily 's greatest natural attraction is also its highest mountain. To the ancient Greeks, Mount Etna was the realm of Vulcan, god of fire, and the home of the one-eyed monster known as the Cyclops. At approximately 3350 meters, it is Europe 's highest active volcano. The height of its summit changes with each eruption, and over the centuries a few lava flows have reached the coast. Over 1200 square meters of Etna 's surface is covered with solidified lava. Etna offers skiing in the Winter months and breathtaking hikes in the woods during the Summer. There are also a number of smaller peaks on the slopes of Etna, and some interesting caverns. Since Etna is a strato volcano, with relatively cool lava temperatures and numerous openings (vents), nobody ever knows precisely where on its vast surface the next eruption will be. Etna 's long recorded history has proven invaluable to the world 's volcanologists. Mount Etna is said to erupt in a Strombolian style in which the mountain erupts like a fountain from a single vent or crater.…

Some of the bad things about the project is that it can cause more pollution instead of lowering the chances of it. The building if not stable enough could collapse because the base camp is a moving glacier. Building this would cost more than $700,000 (not including the cost for electricity and supplies). That would make a sum of about $3,000,000 for when it is first built and and about $2,300,000 for all the supplies and electricity. That probably does not even include the cost of shipping. which would add about $50,000 every time a load of stuff is shipped there.…
